Just incredible but don’t call cows milk “normal milk” - Edit
I came back for dinner and dessert in particular was delicious with the vanilla cannoli and honeycomb. The Wellington was good, but not amazing. But I did overhear “normal milk” being offered to the next table. Stop normalising cow’s milk.
Read moreWe came here for dinner. It was nice to see some mocktails which seem to be missing from many London menus. We ordered the courgette flower for an entree. This was delicious but it was only 1 flower. Still it came with a quinoa salad. For my main, I ordered the cordon Bleu which was grilled eggplant with potato gratin and a delicious sauce. This is one of the nicest mains I’ve had so far. My partner ordered the gnocchi which looked a bit small but he liked it. Finally what I’d been waiting for, the tiramisu! Great sized dessert and a lovely flavour without being sickly.
We sat outside on a warm London night. It was lovely.

Expensive, but a really nice atmosphere with nice staff. We had the festive menu, which was limited but delicious. Particularly enjoyed the main course of the wellington.

I had a great meal at The Gate! I even convinced my self-described “carnivore” friend to join me, and he LOVED the katsu curry. I had the mushroom risotto cake and shared the polenta chips, which were both delicious. I’d happily come back again to try more options!

I stumbled across these pics from The Gate from February 2019! I thought it was about time I posted them. Proof that The Gate have been consistent in serving beatifully presented dishes for years. We've visited a few of The Gate restaurants in London and we've always enjoyed the food.

Read moreThe hostess was as cold as ice, could of been a military drill Sargent. She looked down at me and said “you have reservations” in some type of thick Eastern European accent. I was expecting to be tortured and interrogated by the KGB at any moment. She seemed to be hesitant in allowing me in due to my lack of reservations. The restaurant was 3/4 full and as the evening progressed, it emptied gradually. Space was never a problem… why the attitude about reservations?
I ordered the aubergine teriyaki and cauliflower side dish. Portions were perfect and price were typical for a big city.
Three times my 1/4 filled cider glass drink was grabbed by a sever and attempted to be taken away. I decided to keep a tight grasp of my drink the entire evening. Am I only allowed to drink partial beverages purchased?
The food was tasty.
The sticky toffee dessert delicious and satisfying.
Would I come back? Maybe, work needs to be done in balancing the tasty food with the staff behavior.

Wish I could leave 5 stars

They just explained to me that they have for brunch a separate menu where they serve eggs! I am totally confused myself as the restaurant is advertised as fully plant based . Disappointing really , for the animals😒

We’ve visited twice in the last 3 months and the food is always outstanding. They just started a new menu when we visited and I had an aubergine and mushroom terrine followed by the beetroot burger (boring I know). I was able to swap the salad for sweet potato fries for the same price, which was brilliant.
Read moreMy partner had the teriyaki aubergine main and the avocado ceviche starter. I tried those as well and everything was incredibly fresh and tasty.
We’ll definitely come back, especially seeing that they keep changing their menu, it’s pretty much 95% vegan and the service and food are brilliant.

We came with a £25 coupon which included a drink and 3 courses. I feel that without it, I wouldn't have been too happy paying full price as the portions didn't match what they were charging for the food. The plating was pretty and most of the food tasted quite nice but I was thrown off by the texture of the gnocchi and the lack of flavor of the faux gras (had better versions of this in other places). Not sure why they can't just go fully vegan as the menu didn't have any dairy or eggs when I went...

Felt healthy without being obviously so. Absolutely delicious food that really hit the spot. Tried the faux gras, bun, katsu curry. All five stars. Colleague had the gnocchi and raved about it. Hope we can come back on this or the next visit.
