Tasty food, great view

Choice of vegan options, including falafel burger and cauliflower wings. Friendly service, big portions and a great view out to Lerwick harbour

Bright spot on a rainy day

We ran into The Dowry during a downpour. We were thrilled to see so many vegan options. I got the hummus plate. Pomegranate seeds and arugula were welcome additions, and the bread they served it with was delicious. My husband had the pea burger and a side of fried cauliflower. He said the burger was subtle, but the sauce was exceptional. He enjoyed the relatively lightly fried cauliflower. Again, the sauce was his favorite part. They also have a bar, and I appreciated a G&T with a local gin. I wish we had had enough room for the vegan millionaire shortbread. Maybe next time!

Pricey but ok.

Mainly tourist-popular but glad to see some VG options including the soup of the day. The pea burger was better than it looked! Good texture and a nice sauce.

They also have cauliflower wings and nachos I think.

Pros: Not a huge menu but still a few VG choices., Licensed., Staff friendly and efficient.

Cons: Quite pricey - £16ish for a pub burger and chips.

Decent selection of vegan dishes in a small town

At probably our most remote cruise port, we were able to find a restaurant that had vegan options. We stopped in for lunch and hubby and I both ordered the PEA, SPINACH & BUTTERBEAN burger and the SWEET TATTIE FRIES. The fries came up first with the included sauce, but the menu can be a little confusing as the fries are marked (Vg) and the Maple Mustard Mayo (V). This means the fries themselves are vegan, but the sauce is vegetarian. We even asked if the sauce was vegan and one of the runners said it was. We showed him the menu and he went to confirm with the owner/manager who stated it, in fact, was NOT vegan.

The burger was decent. The patty was reminiscent of a BOCA burger that was slightly mushy, but not overly so. The fries were also good. Our non-vegan friends who dined with us enjoyed their SHETLAND BATTERED HADDOCK, so it seemed like they did a good non-vegan business as well. We had to wait for a table when we arrived and there was a constant line while we were dining, so this place is popular. Granted, there were two ships in port that day, so the population of the town probably more than doubled and there wasn't a large selection of restaurants in town.

I probably won't get back to Lerwick again, but it's nice to know that even in remote parts of the world, in small towns, it is possible to find a restaurant that serves some vegan food.

Pros: Vegan options, Friendly staff

Cons: Can be crowded with long wait times, Staff needs more education on Vg vs. V menu items

Delicious!

Wow, what a great meal! We LOVED the cauliflower wings with tangy buffalo sauce (they seem to be popular based on past reviews and photos) and the seeds and berries with the lemon cheesecake was very sweet. The menu has a decent range of vegan options (savoury and sweet) and all alcoholic drinks are labelled for those who are concerned. Staff were very lovely. Great spot on Commercial St with views over the harbour. Lovely atmosphere with fairy lights.

Delicious

Fantastic creative vegan options on the menu. I had the buffalo cauliflower wings which were delicious, not at all greasy and with lovely fresh crisp veggies and sauce. The sweet tattie wedges were tasty though a bit dry with no vegan mayo available, I would ask for an alternative sauce next time. Had oat milk for tea. Looking forward to trying other options.

Great lunch!

Really enjoyed the lunch i had here, at least a couple of vegan choices on the menu - i chose the buffalo cauliflower wings which were very tasty and a side of wonderful sweet tatties. As a non-drinker i was pleased to note a great selection of alcohol free beers and AF gin too. Staff very friendly and helpful. I def recommend this place 😊

Pros: Tasty vegan food, Great staff, Good choice of alcohol free drinks

Nice place!

Very clear information re: masks and social distancing. We were seen to immediately, filled the corona thingie for tracking and were given the menus. The staff was back very quickly for our order and brought us our food quickly as well; they were super efficient and nice. There are a couple vegan options; I had the foccacia with hummus and lemon and side of tatties. (the foccacia was very lemon-y and the side salad was very vinegar-y but I think that was just the one time, I don't think it's usually like that.) overall a decent experience! Would come back and try their curry soup if I'm ever back in Shetlands😄

Pros: Some vegan options (5?), Quick service, Good hygiene (you get a squirt of disinfectant)

Cons: Too much lemon/vinegar in my dish. , Vegan tatties come with a separate nonvegan sauce

Fab food

Simple, warm decor. Helpful staff. Delicious food. One morning I had the Dowry Granola, Almond Milk and Berries and one lunch time I had the Cauliflower Buffalo Wings and Sweet Potato Fries with Vegan Mayo. I definitely want to go again as there are more Vegan options I want to try.

Pros: Several Options, Amazing Presentation and Flavour.

Cons: On the expensive side but worth it for a treat!
