Incredible BBQ wings! - Edit
Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered the vegan bbq wings which were incredible! They rivalled Red Bamboo in New York and that's saying something.
Read moreWe got two sandwiches to share and one portion of curly fries (which was ginormous). Both were delicious and the homemade, locally grown, ginger beer as an added bonus! Would definitely recommend a visit.
Pros: lots of vegan options, delicious food, laid back atmosphere
Cons: none.

Staff did not know about dairy in milk shake flavors - Edit
Great wings! You can also buy them in the freezer of Down to earth if you want to make them at home and at the bulk sales vegetarian distributor.
Read moreSome of the flavors for their shakes have dairy like malt and carmel and are still sold as vegan when a non-dairy ice cream is used. Not all staff is aware of menu ingredients. This is a common complaint at this restaurant. Otherwise the food is good here.
Pros: Good food, Lots of vegan options
Cons: Staffs lack of knowledge about ingredients

Great vibe, staff and all dessert options are vegan - Edit
Really felt welcome here by the staff, and although it is not an all-veg restaurant, they had plenty of vegan replacement options for their burgers, platters and all dessert options were vegan. My husband and I ended up going out of our way to go to Downbeat three times during the week we were visiting (and we were staying in Waikiki, so we did have to go a little out of our way to get there). Great vibe and nighttime entertainment and karaoke too!

Skimpy with portions and poor service - Edit
I ordered the pesto tofu scramble with the home fries and the pancakes after I saw a photo of the portion sizes on here. When I got my meal, I was disappointed. I had noticably smaller pancakes (half the size) and less of each of the other items. Considering the price had also gone up by $3 since that photo was posted, I feel a little ripped off. If you are going to go up in price, you shouldn't also go down in quantity. Everything was good in taste, but I don't feel as though the price was fair for what I got. I was considering ordering dessert, but I would hate to get it and it be half the size I was expecting.
Read moreAlso, the service was lacking. After ordering, I noticed that I didn't have any water. I looked around at the other tables, and they also didn't have water. After a while, he brought water to one of the tables, so I thought for sure he would fix his mistake and bring water to me and the other tables, but he didn't. I ended up having to ask for water. So strange. That's like waitering 101.
Pros: Lots of vegan options
Cons: Skimpy portions, lazy service

Just ok - Edit
Lots of vegan options but seem to be regularly out of the options. First time we went they were out of wings, second time out of ice cream. The reuban I ordered was super greasy. The wings were really good though. Worth checking out but not a place I'd be too sad to miss out on going either. If you do go though, make sure to go around the corner to Wing Shaved Ice and Ice Cream for some amazing homemade vegan ice cream.

Superb Vegan Comfort Food - Edit
We got the vegan volcano fries and a vegan scramble and bacon with pancakes. The fries were definitely the best part! I thought that the scramble was decent, but not very flavorful. I enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes very much. The fries are definitely worth a go with plenty of flavor and a great appetizer. I’d say try something other than the scramble! There are SOO many options on the menu with vegan desserts offered as well! I’m a big fan of vegan comfort food and this was the best place I’ve found for it.

Delicious junk food! - Edit
We had the BBQ wings, spicy wings and volcano fries to share between 2 of us - all vegan. Decent sized portions and delicious food! The fries had the most yummy vegan cheese sauce. Most things can be veganised and there’s a few gluten free choices if you ask, although probably not suitable for severe gluten allergies.

This is a fantastic place to go as a vegetarian with non-veg friends! They have all the traditional Hawaiian diner foods in both veg and non-veg options. My friend I was there with didn’t even get the meat so we could share more things and he loved everything.

Decided to stop in here for lunch and was not disappointed. I’m obsessed with anything buffalo, so I got the buffalo vegan chicken sandwich with Cajun fries. It was amazing! You can veganize most of the menu. The restaurant has a cool vibe to it. They also have a great selection of beers too. Great place for vegans and omnivores!

Lots of vegan options and open later than anywhere else! - Edit
I've been here a couple times in the past. I like their vegan buffalo "chicken" wings and fries, but rarely eat junk food. However, last week I found myself downtown late and had a plate with orange "chicken" salad, and brown rice. My friend had the vegan Loco Moco with brown rice. Both plates were very generous and quite good. There were lots of other items I'd like to try. We were happy to find it open at 10:30 on a weeknight. although we were the last order (closing time varies depending on the customer traffic).

Vegan options galore! Yummy! - Edit
Nice diner style restaurant with hip decor. Menu offers breakfast and lunch type items that are sure to satisfy Omni’s and vegans alike. Wife had the vegan citrus ribs and they were delicious. I had a vegan chicken pesto sandwich and it was amazing. Also, we had vegan milkshakes (my wife strawberry and I caramel) and they were the best vegan shakes ever! Made from a local vegan ice cream and soy milk and even our Omni father who had a vegan strawberry one himself thought it was amazing. Great vegan spot where most item menus seem to be able to be veganized. Highly recommended.

Decent vegan food - Edit
This place is a good option if you are eating with non vegans. Chill atmosphere and it seems like most of their menu can be made vegan. I had a breakfast plate with tofu scramble, brown rice, vegan sausage, and a half order of vegan French toast. The sausage was pretty good, French toast was great, and tofu scramble wasn’t my favorite. It was a little runny and lots of turmeric.

This isn't my favorite place, but it does its job when it comes to getting my 3 year old to eat. He's going through this "picky" phase -- one day he eats three servings of broccoli, and the next day he looks at his plate like he's offended that there even be anything green on his plate! Anyway, he LOVES the vegan hot wings! I've had the vegan BLT and the garlic fries - both really tasty, but I just don't like the price. I don't mind paying for the hot wings because I don't know how to make them or where to buy them! My husband usually gets the chicken and waffles, which he loves.
Read moreIf you're new to a vegan diet, this is a good place to go because you can get something you would normally eat (containing meat, eggs, and/or dairy) but get it all "veganized"! I took my husband here when we were transitioning from the standard American diet.
Pros: Serves alcohol (full bar), Omni, vegetarian, and vegan friendly, Great for picky kids (burgers, fries, shakes, hot

veganize all the things! - Edit
Diner menu, almost everything can be veganized, vegan cheese, vegan Mayo, vegan chili, tofu scrambles, vegan ice cream and milkshakes. I had vegan chili fries, vegan version of pesto eggs which for $10 came with a tofu scramble, vegan bacon, home fries, and two huge pancakes. I did not finish it since I had to save room for the brownie sundae. Pictures of my meal uploaded. This is not health food but on vacation it hits the spot.

Really, really good food for your entire group. Their teriyaki vegan burger, buffalo "chicken" burger, and vegan strawberry shake were all amazing. Don't know when we will be back to Honolulu, but I can't WAIT to try their "chicken" and waffles, or "chicken" sandwich.
Great place, good prices, friendly staff. What else do you want people?! :)

We ate here once a day! Easy access from Waikiki as the bus drops you right out front. Basically every dish has a vegan option, vegan cheeze, mayo, dressings, proteins etc. Loved the burgers, BBQ "faux chikin" sandwich, great chikin and waffles on weekend brunch. Nice vibe and lovely staff. They even have vegan desserts!

Downbeat Diner - Chinatown - Edit
Downbeat Diner specializes in classic American and diner-esque cuisine. With a vegan and vegetarian option for almost everything on the menu as well as homemade cocktails, and specialty drinks. Parking is a bit challenging. Street parking/metered parking is usually the route to go. Option: pay parking lots for $5-$10, but if you're eating sometime after 6pm, look for metered parking as it is free after 6pm. We ordered the Vegan Hot Wings (5pcs/$7), Vegan BBQ Wings (5pcs/$7), The Carnivore (vegan) Burger ($10), Volcano Fries ($7), and Vegan Shakes ($5). Everything was really tasty and had nice portions. This will definitely be a spot we come back to. Looking forward to trying other dishes.
