Unique dining experience

Like other reviews mention, the menu was completely disregarded. Opal crafted some truly unique dishes! His wife does the actual cooking but we didn't get to meet her. We had a taro cake and lettuce wrap appetizer and a laksa noodle soup with a veggie rice dish as entrees. Loved the experience!

Pros: Thoughtful, unique dishes , Cozy atmosphere, Friendly and humorous staff

Cons: Just gotta hope the dishes are vegan since no menu

Does accept Card

Opal is the owner and an amazing chef. Always makes things vegan for me and will usually make one or two meat dishes for my non veg friends. Usually about 3 courses. You will be stuffed and satisfied. Opal likes to mess around a bit so don’t take things too seriously! He’s really dedicated to his craft and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves! I wish I could give him 5 stars

Pros: Can make any dish vegan

Cons: Expensive

Some of the best Thai I've ever had!

As other reviewers have explained, there is a menu but the chef comes to each table and has a conversation with you about what you like to eat. I personally thought this approach was really fun, especially if you go in with an open mind and trust that you will get tasty vegan food. I have only been here once but it seems like you can leave your order up to "chef's choice" or you can tell him specifically what dishes you want, which is what the table next to us did. I enjoyed our conversation about food with the chef and he was extremely respectful of our vegan requests.

If you want to keep it under a certain price, you could tell him to only bring you 1 main dish (or whatever your limit may be). For pricing reference, we got 2 appetizers and 2 mains that came out to about $50 and all portion sizes were large. The 2 of us couldn't finish everything and had to get to-go boxes. We got lettuce wraps with fried tofu and veggies (the best dish we had), a fried radish/mushroom cake with sprouts and sauce on top, a curry noodle dish (so tasty) and green beans and eggplant sauteed in a garlic sauce over rice. Everything was fantastic and I cannot wait to come back again!

Pros: all dishes were so delicious, unique experience, very vegan friendly

Cons: may not be for u if u don't like "chef's choice", limited street parking

Controlling chef

Opal’s Thai is a little charming spot, that has a menu card, but you won’t be able to choose from it. When you have found want you would like to order the chef comes out and tells you off by saying “I got you, don’t worry”. You don’t know how much you get or how much you end up paying.

Pros: Tasty, Fresh, Good atmosphere

Cons: Over controlling chef with a big ego, Practically no menu

A Place for Everyone to Enjoy

Opal Thai is probably THE best place for a group of vegs and non-vegs alike because Opal, himself, comes to your table, gets to know you, quizzes you on your Thai food knowledge, and based off of that he creates your own individual menu. With that being said, if you are out with a group where some are vegan/vegetarian and others are not, Opal will take care of your dietary needs and/or preferences.

The restaurant is small, and the kitchen is closed from 3-5pm to get ready for the dinner hours. You might have to wait to be seated, but if you do it will be well worth it! This is the best Thai food on island. Hands down!

And it's BYOB 😏

Pros: Don't have to think about what to eat, Custom, surprise menu, DELICIOUS FOOD!

Amazing food, great experience

Best Thai food I've had on island. Chef Opal will make you some amazing vegan food as soon as he knows you're vegan/vegetarian, you're set. Super fun dining experience, only complaint would be the wait but it's no wonder there's a long wait for a place that good! Worth the wait!
