Serves meat, vegan options available. Large, bright and open pub with plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the water. Menu is regularly updated and offers vegan dishes. Could include sausages, mash and seasonal vegetables, and a vegan nugget ciabatta with chili mayo, chips and salad. Open Mon-Sun 09:30-22:30.

Good pub grub

After some hunting for a place with a vegan option in West Mersea, we found The Coast Inn. There is plenty of indoor (open and breezy, not packed together) and outdoor (overlooking the River Blackwater and a harbour) seating, and a couple of vegan options. The menu changes regularly but the limited Monday and Tuesday menu had the option of sausages, mash and seasonal vegetables, and a vegan nugget ciabatta with chili mayo, chips and salad on the daily specials board (much nicer than it sounds - I really enjoyed it and it was only £9 for a filling meal, equivalent to or less than I would pay at Nandos or Wagamamas).

Do note that there were no vegan desserts on the menu, but this could change with the menu (I got a vegan Magnum from the ice cream van parked nearby!)

Pros: Food cooked fresh, Generous portion sizes, Relaxed feel

Cons: Limited options, Some meals more expensive
