traditional pub nice atmosphere

This is as above nice traditional bar with great range of beers (draught and bottled. All beers marked as vegan where relevant and v large list of bottled options. Usually at least three good items with vegan menu. (Eg sausage and mustard mash/spicy bean burger and fries/ veg jambalaya creole stew with rice peppers and sausage today)

Pros: good range beers, a few nice vegan options, nice atmosphere

Cons: no issues really it’s pub food but nice

good bar

But very little else.
It's always good to get food but sometimes you have to just eat. Mondays in Newcastle was a tough one, so many places closed so I thought I'd go vegan friendly.
I think the bar is great and they have made the effort to list all the vegan beers. There are a few vegan options but I have to say it's like a glorified wetherspoons.
I had a been burger, chips and there was some salad on the side which was the highlight. Everything else was bland and oily. Rather than a frozen bean burger why not just do a Portobello mushroom burger, fresh and tasty.
It is an option of needed and everything apart from the food was lovely.

Pros: staff, great pub, lication

Cons: food

Great Beer and Vegan Friendly

I like this traditional bar for a great vegan beer such as Erdinger and possibly a vegan snack before going to a gig at The Sage. There's a bus stop directly outside which is perfect. Nice to see it on Happy Cow and doing well.

Rock 'n' Rolls

Located just a stone’s throw from the Gateshead Sage the Central bar is a great place to visit for food and drink. I have been going here for many a year mostly for the great beer but now since the menu has embraced veganism, it has become an even better place to go to. All vegan options are clearly labelled and on offer they have a 'hearty' spicy bean burger, biriyani curry, a specials board that changes regularly and sides and nibbles such as the homemade chunky chips, all at moderate prices. The staff here are very friendly and the atmosphere is always excellent with a great playlist of tunes in the background.

Pros: Vegan options, Great beer, Friendly staff and nice vibe

Cons: Serves meat

Steaming Ahead

Years ago as a young lad back in the 80s I remember seeing this dingy run down place travelling on the Sunderland to Newcastle rail line with my folks. This was when Gateshead was pretty much a no go area. However, after a £1m investment by The Head of Steam group in 2010 this Grade II listed building dating from 1856 has been beautifully, stunningly and lovingly restored. It's a proper traditional British boozer, probably my favourite in the Gateshead / Newcastle area. I absolutely love it. It reminds me of The Adelphi in Leeds and The Brass Monkey in Edinburgh. Both of which are unique places. Usually, we always pop in here for the best pint of Erdinger in North of England prior to going to gigs at The Sage which is literally just over the road. The vegetarian menu is quite extensive and they also have clearly labelled vegan options. We had a bowl of their finest chunky chips and veg chilli before going to see Howard Jones recently (coincidentally a veggie). Pretty delicious it was. The Central absolutely rocks.
