Still only take away

This visit confirm take away only. We had tea which was in large container and an excellent price. Also had unsweetened soya made by Soleil whereas most places now seem to use Alpro which tastes sweet in tea to us even the No Sugars variety.
Cakes reasonably priced too. I had blueberry and maple stick.

Pros: Brilliant prices, Number of options, Friendly service

Cons: Shame cafe not open

A Relaxing and Welcoming Cafe - May 2021 sadly the cafe has not re-opened.

Vegan food here is always available and is tasty and enjoyable. There is a choice of settees or tables to relax at I would recommend the scones and coffee, vegan cheese, fruit, chocolate or plain, warmed with vegan spread. Lunches are varied, I have had vegan macaroni cheese and salad, mushroom pate with fresh baked bread and salad, vegan chilli and various soups - all delicious.

Amazing home made food

Freshly home made weekly specials, warm scones, salads, soups, 3 bean chilli all vegan, a warm welcome from friendly staff. All food except gluten free cakes made in house, nothing pre-packaged.

Pros: Large vegan choice, weekly changing specials , Over 5 different vegan scones choices, Always Vegan soups, three bean chilli, salads

Cons: Family friendly so lots of young families

Not vegan focused

Just ok for vegan stop off, off putting smell of bacon cooking heavy in the air, and a poor choice of cakes, prepackaged and not that great to be fair, ok if meeting non vegan friends but wouldn’t recommend for a vegan only party

Pros: Comfortable seating

Cons: Expensive cake

Great vegan options

It’s pretty easy to miss The Book Rest altogether if you don’t know it’s there. Situated on the first floor above a bookshop up a fairly narrow staircase, you’re greeted with a homely space divided into a sofa section near the windows at the front (perfect for people watching from above as you eat) and more traditional tables in the rear.

Vegans and veggies are very well catered for here. A breakfast option now exists (sausage roll with extras) and the main menu now has more options than ever with sandwiches, hot mains, sides and of course, desserts! The staff are very knowledgable if you’re in doubt as the menu isn’t always 100% clear on what is sfv. Food quality is excellent - I had a homemade lemon and coriander hummus and bread as a starter followed by vegan macaroni cheese with a side salad. Perhaps my only complaint is the portion sizes. They’re fine for most and very reasonably priced but if you’re really hungry or are used to bigger portions, you might want to order an extra side. Hot drinks are also available such as vegan hot chocolate with cream and grated chocolate.

Pros: Quality food, Well priced, Charming interior

Cons: Portion sizes may be lacking (for some)

Lots of choice but a few things missing

Lots of items marked vegan on the menu, including lunch specials, milkshakes and sundaes! All scones are vegan too. Some of the milkshake flavours and sundae toppings we're unavailable but we were here in the low season

Great selection

I had a fabulous breakfast here. Homemade rosti’s, beans, toast, Linda Mc sausages, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms (I didn’t have mushrooms). It was so good! They have vegan spread for toast, and a choice of almond milk or soy milk for coffee etc.

Pros: Great selection of all meals, Well priced , Friendly service

Cons: No vegan waffles...
