Excellent and authentic

In a town dominated by traditional anglo-indian curry houses, Thanal came as a real breath of fresh air with its keralan fare. I chose the vegetarian thali which comprises a starter, thali of 7 dishes with rice and pancake, a desert and mint tea for £12. The food was amazing, each dish having its own unique and distinct character - a million miles from the generic batch-cooked sauces found in your average balti house. The first indian food I've had in Nottinghamshire that really brought back the smells and tastes I used to experience at my indian friends' houses when as a child. The staff are very hospitable and happy to discuss their food, techniques, culture and language with you at length, but are in no way overbearing. Wonderful food, great value.
