Needs to Thai harder

Came here on a Saturday night at about 6pm, place was less than half full and never got any busier while we were there.
The place has a unique look from the street with the restaurant set back from the road with a large courtyard/entrance. The interior is adorned with Thai ornaments and effigies but had no music playing and lacked any real ambience.

No mention of Vegan on the menu but they have a dedicated Vegetarian section of which some of the dishes appeared to be Vegan based on ingredients listed.

Ordered the Green Basil Stir Fry, Garlic Rice and Panang Curry (Mild with Tofu); asked the waitress if Green Basil Stir Fry could be made vegan by excluding the fish sauce and she said yes straight away but her response didn’t instil confidence for some reason. Felt like she wasn’t really listening so confirmed a second time that they could make it Vegan and again she replied yes.

Order was not repeated back and no indication of how long the meals would take. They ended up coming out after about 15 minutes which is fine.

One of the waiters dropped some full glasses, whatever, accidents happen, but he didn’t apologise or check to see if any of the diners nearby were ok or splashed. He then disappeared for five minutes before coming back and partially cleaning it.

All the staff were meek and lifeless, but they also seemed very young so I guess they can be forgiven. “But what about the food?!”, I hear you ask. Well, it was very average. The Panang Curry was the wrong consistency, more of a soup than a curry and lacked any real flavour. The Green Basil Stir Fry sauce was a lot better, but the dish was primarily comprised of capsicum, beans and onions. Garlic rice was meh.

Overall I’d give it a miss unless you are really craving Thai, even then, lower your expectations and opt for takeaway.

Best Thai in Yeppoon!

My go to Thai in Yeppoon. I can’t go past the chilli cashew stir fry. Coconut rice is amazing, tofu is an vege option and very accomodating to make meals vegan.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Quick , Small local business

Ok

This place is located just a couple of shops down from Domino’s. Loads of parking, loads of seating. Their vegetarian selection is quite extensive which is impressive given that vegetarian menu options are usually quite limited. Meals can be made vegan. I had the sweet and sour tofu, vegetable spring rolls and coconut rice. The spring rolls were dull in flavour and chewy. Rice was great. Sweet and sour tofu was not bad but not great. I would recommend if you want Thai because the other Thai restaurant in town doesn’t appear to be vegan friendly. I entered the other store and asked for a tofu dish and was met with a confused , almost disgusted look on the staff members face.

Pros: Extensive selection, Friendly staff

Cons: Flavour didn’t quite hit the mark

Tofu Dishes

Sampled the vegetarian meal at this delightful eatery and enjoyed it immensely. Deep fried Tofu with both sweet and sour sauce plus the other dish with peanut and garlic sauce. Excellent food and ate well too much! Service was lovely.
Lots of tofu options on the menu along with soups and spring rolls.
