Curry uses milk as base - Edit
The staff will tell you otherwise but I got the yellow curry and had major stomach issues afterwards (I’m lactose-intolerant). Stay away from the curry.

Horrible but a ¿NonTraditional Surprise? - Edit
I requested tempeh as a protein option on the dish I ordered, but the dish I received had no protein. I was a malnourished vægan on this day. Also, the description stated that mushrooms were not at all traditional for this dish, so I trusted and opted to go without. There was definitely a mushroom in the dish however. I love mushrooms. #Veganuary

Thank the gods for the avocado oil however, or I would have also been hungry tonight in addition to malnourished.

Outstanding Thai Food and Vegan Ice Cream - Edit
This place consistently serves up delicious Thai food. I usually get the yellow curry. When you order tofu as your protein, they automatically make the dish vegan. Their vegan ice cream is also delish.

Oil-free vegan options available - Edit
I’m on a high starch, no free oil, vegan diet so when friends want Thai food I like to come here and order the large order of blanched vegetables with 3 sides of brown rice for me. Then my friends who aren’t vegan can get what they want for themselves also. I usually bring a little travel bottle of curried white balsamic vinegar to flavor the veggies without oil. My dish is a huge amount of healthy food for 11 dollars. If you could give 5 stars I would.

Not sure why we can’t rate this place 5 stars - Edit
They state they can make every item on their menu vegan and gluten free. Their Thai food is full of flavor, their ice cream will make you never miss the real stuff.

Ice cream that is awesome! - Edit
Now, havent had their menu items, but their coconut icecream is phenomenal! I love it, totally wish I knew how to make it myself, cause it is addictive as hell! So delicious and has a great flavor that seems to be rather unique to their icecream! Highly recommend it to any vegans looking for desert in south Austin!

Cons: When they run out of flavors, sometimes no more.

Vegan friendly Thai - Edit
This is a great place to eat if you're vegan and love authentic Thai food. All veg dishes can be made vegan. I especially loved the Pad Thai and the Red Curry.
Read moreBut BUYER BEWARE -- the reason I did not give it 5 stars - they add a service charge to the cost of the food, but then the wait-staff did not alert us, so we paid a tip on top of the tip! (I guess we're supposed to read the fine print on the menu). Not cool. My friend (who paid) was pissed off enough to not want to come back.

Pros: lots of choices and authentic tasting
Cons: not great atmosphere - shabby interior, adds a service charge but not obvious

Thai Fresh never disappoints. They have an attached café/study area that serves INCREDIBLE vegan ice cream (probably the best in Austin). Definitely worth a visit!

Great vegan options - Edit
Went to Thai Fresh with some friends who aren't vegan, one of which has celiac, and we all had plenty of options to choose from! I had the spicy basil fried rice with tofu (naturally vegan, no omissions/substitutions required). It was fantastic! Since it was spicy, my lips were burning a bit by the end of the meal, so I got some mint chocolate coconut ice cream! So good. Would definitely return.

Don't skip the desserts - Edit
I wish they had more vegan main dishes because the draw to this resto are the fabulous vegan desserts. Baked goods, raw cheesecakes and ice cream. Yes, they have a slew of homemade vegan ice creams that are incredible. They have exotic flavours (and some traditional, too) that work really well. I loved the pandan ice cream served atop warm sticky rice.
Read moreOf note, the resto is set up so that you order your food first and they will bring it to your table once it is ready. The line can be long, so plan your dessert in advance so you don't need to line up a second time.
Pros: incredible vegan ice cream
Cons: needs more vegan mains
