Tasty Thai puts a "V" next to items on their menu to indicate items that can be made vegan. However, I found out many of these items actually have fish sauce in them (e.g., the Thom Kha soup, their curries). I only learned this after getting a to-go order where the cook wrote on the ticket that the Thom Kha wasn't vegan and couldn't be made vegan. The front-end staff then told me that the soup and several other dishes couldn't actually be made vegan since fish sauce is incorporated into the flavorings they use. I was very disturbed to learn this since I had been trusting that the "V" truly meant they were preparing dishes as vegan when asked to have it vegan--and I had ordered and eaten the Thom Kha soup several times before. I showed them the "V" on their menu and asked why they put a "V" next to those items and they didn't have an answer for that. I hope they correct their menu, but I will not be going back.
I love Tasty Thai Kitchen! I have lived n Eugene for a year now and Tasty Thai Kitchen is my go to restaurant. I ear primarily plant based and Tasty Thai has many options for me and my meat eating family as well. Most of the meals start plant based and allow you to add a protein making sure they have something for everyone in your party. They have many choices from curries to stir fries, Pad Thai and fried rice to appetizers, all eaters will find an option. The owner told me most of their recipes are gluten free too. Be sure to try their brown rice, a special blend of 5 different rices. The presentation is beautiful and the restaurant is very clean and bright.
