Sunday Night - Indian Thali

Every Sunday night this reverts from an Asian fusion restaurant to a pure Indian restaurant.

Book in advance because this place books up early.

While there may have been only one vegan dessert on the menu, it had had plenty of vegan options. I was with a 5 colleagues so rather than choose from the menu we accepted to take the chef’s vegan surprise Thali dinner.

Firsts -
The ‘Pani Puri’ was a lovely appetiser and more akin to an amuse-bouche with two bite-sized puffed balls. Wonderful Indian street food turned up a notch for this classy restaurant and modified for the vegan palate, it was done to perfection. The puri balls were light and not at all greasy or oily despite being deep fried. A base of mango chutney with a chana masala stuffing topped with coriander, had a freshness about it I hadn’t anticipated. The pani decorated with an edible flower floating on top was cool and complex, slightly salty with a citrus note, it had carried the bold flavours of ginger and mint, enhancing the puri to give an explosion of bite sized flavour. Luckily there were only two otherwise I may not have stopped eating until too late!
The ‘Pea Cakes’ had a satisfying comfy food taste about them. A crispy outer with a thick almost mashed potato textured centre they were moreish. Biting though the textured outer revealed a complex but easily defined mixture of potato, cumin and ginger. I got a hint of the coconut binding the ingredients with a warming chilli afterglow lingering. Unlike the pani puri, the chilli warmth of the pea cakes paired really well with the ‘Shoreish’ red wine giving me a peppery tingling tongue. Amazing.

Seconds - The’ Masaman’ was a blend of cauliflower and tofu, drenched in the a traditional rich masaman curry sauce with a scattering of sliced red chillis and coriander. It had a depth of flavour which only comes from cooking the sauce for many hours. By permitting the warmed tofu and al dente cauliflower, to be barely cooked their flavours were not overpowered and could be experienced while enjoying the masaman.

Mains - The ‘Tikka Masala Tufu Skewer’ wasn’t anything special really. It was lovely but as expected.

Dessert - The ‘Black Forest’ blew everyone away. Light, complex with at least 6 different textures and flavours, it had something for everyone and despite never taking a dessert, I had 4 mouthfuls because I couldn’t quite get my head around what my tastebuds were yelling at me. Try it …

Pros: Amazing flavour combinations, Vegans don’t feel left out here

Cons: Expensive but worth every shekel

Don't order the Masaman curry!!!

They have a choice of 6 vegan dishes on the menu. We had two of the appetizers, a main and a dessert. The appetizers (Nems and the Pot Stikers) and the dessert (dark chocolate cannoli with coconut cream and mixed berries) were really good. BUT the main dish Masaman was really really really bad. Too heavy in coconut cream, leaving an awful aftertaste. I would not take it for free. If that would have been the first thing we ordered, we would not have ordered more and never come back. Also the waiters were very annoying, trying to push us in the beginning to order all the 6 dishes right away. That would have been way too much though. Although the other dishes were nice, that main dish was so bad, that it left a bad aftertaste making us both feel bad. We very likely won't come back.

Pros: Very good dessert, Nice first courses

Cons: Awful main, that was very expensive, Unfriendly, pushy service, Just one vegan dessert option

Delicious Gourmet Vegan!

I loved the food here - it is quite different from anything I've had in Tel Aviv! On the menu, there were 4 vegan appetizers available, three mains, and one dessert on the Saturday that I was there recently. There is a good deal for Saturday lunch: two appetizers and one main for NIS 135. The setting is intimate, and elegant but comfortable, and you can sit outside if you prefer. The wait staff was professional and friendly. Everything was expertly prepared with beautiful presentations and very delicious. Each dish was flavorful and different from the others. I especially liked the yam curry with cashew cream and the fried tofu roll appetizer. I'd like to return on a Sunday night, when there is an all-Indian menu. The restaurant stamps your parking card giving you a 75% discount.

Pros: Gourmet vegan dishes, Parking in basement lot of building

Cons: Only one vegan dessert.
