Second location of the first plant based gastropub in Budapest. Located in the 8 District with the same cozy atmosphere, a larger guest room and more menu options. Community space providing a place for many exhibitions, workshops, smallish music events. Offers a big bar menu with burgers, loaded fries, "hermelin", in addition to various starters, tapas and main dishes, from 'notfish & chips' to Hungarian loaded pancakes. Has several beers, wines and spirits as well as premium and local soft drinks. Open Mon-Sun 12:00-23:00.

Delicious!!! - Edit
They have a few vegan Hungarian options, which made us interested in this place. Staff was super nice and welcoming, place looks cozy, and menu has a great variety of everything, including burgers, pasta, etc. We tried the pancake with mushroom filling and paprika sauce, which our Hungarian friend swooned over, the potato casserole was also very delicious (loved the scrambled tofu), and my friends also loved the dirty fries. The beetroot burger was a bit dry, I kinda expected a veganized beetroot-juice oozing patty. All in all a very pleasant experience, can highly recommend!

Hungarian food for tourists - Edit
I really recommend this place for tourists because they serve a few traditional hungarian meals veganized.
Read moreThe portions are big enough (I know it doesn’t look like that, but the food is also a bit oily so it’s calorie-dense), the restaurant is good, but there are better restaurants in the city. I didn’t like the carbonara, but I loved the jackfruit burger and the “shrimp” appetizer. I found everything a bit overpriced.
Pros: Traditional hungarian food, Tasty and filling burgers, Pub feeling
Cons: Expensive , Oily food

Nagy adagok, házias ízek, kedves kiszolgálás. Nem lehet nem jól lakni. A bodza szörp is fullos volt. 🥰

Fantastic veganized hungarian food - Edit
It was great to find hungarian food cooked in a vegan way. The pancakes filled with mushrooms and paprika sauce was very good, as the chocolate-apple crumble which we had for dessert. The inside could well use a bit of work.

Very nice restaurant with tasty dishes. Also loved the drinks. There are traditional Hungarian dishes and classics. Would definitely come back! Staff was a bit upstaged tho but was not big of a deal.

Not super happy - Edit
We went for a dinner, we ordered the fermented veg cheese (it was more than amazing), a burger and the crepes with mushrooms.
Read moreThe problem was that outside there were 35 degrees with 43% humidity.
We decided to eat inside for this reason and no AC and no fan.
It was impossible to finish to eat because was like a punish.
Pros: Food, Service
Cons: Too hot inside, No AC no fan, No possibility to change something in the food

Average - Edit
I was pretty excited to visit Szabad Bisztró, looking at all the good reviews, but somehow this place didn’t manage to convince me.
Read moreI had the Pulled Burger with fries, which was nice, but pretty average. The setting is okay, it’s probably more entertaining if you go there for a real “pub evening” than just for dinner. Staff was very nice though.
I would still give it another try to see how the other dishes are!

2. location of our favorite place in Budapest - Edit
We really enjoyed dinner here, the food and drinks were great. Their menu is bigger here than at their first location. We prefer the vibe of the other location though. The szabad salata and the sztrapcska were excellent.

The vegan Sztrapacska with cottage cheese was really good, prices top, but the atmosphere was unfortunately not very warm and cozy.

Must visit vegan place - Edit
If you want to support a 100% ethical vegan, dog friendly, cool place with fantastic foods this is the testaurant what you have to visit. I'm vegan chef in Spain and I prefer eat out in restaurants where everything is homemade. Here - the beetroot burger - is just WOW! Must have! Perfectly harmonizing flavors in homemade, fluffy bun - simply amazing! I had artesan beer and apricot palinka as well, both of them are high quality local products.

Unreal - Edit
Absolutely amazing. We had the French cheese appetizer that was just out of this world - a true alchemy of god knows what that was better than any vegan cheese I’ve ever had. Then the salad with jackfruit, also amazing. Finally, the Hungarian pancake with mushrooms wrapped inside, and OH MY GOD I would eat that every day until the end of the world. Washed down with some excellent beer and a few shots of Palinka, sweet Jesus, roll me into heaven. Oh, here comes dessert…

Laid back atmosphere and hearty dishes - Edit
Similarly to the ‘original’ Szabad Bisztró on Király street, this bistro also offers heart dishes inspired by Hungarian cuisine, as well as creative takes on some traditionally meat or dairy-based dishes, including some junk food options. Staff are laid back and kind, and you’re guaranteed to meet their cute dogs, too!

Tastiest vegan food in Budapest. - Edit
I'll be dreaming of notfish and chips till next time I come back to Budapest. Very delicious food, the Notchicken burger was also tasty. Beer was fine, not the best Czech brand of beer, but that's my personal problem of having picky czech beer tongue.

A must-try gastropub near Rákóczi square - Edit
I love the "original" Szabad Bisztró (under #101 Király str.) and I was curious how different the "new" Szabad is. The atmosphere, the interior, the friendly, English-speaking staff are the same, and the food is even more of my taste. (Even though I love the menu of the "original" Szabad, too.)
Read moreWe had a deep fried "not shrimps" to share, which was lovely, especially with the hot and sweet chilli sauce.
Then, I had a Szabad salad, which was very flavorful, and it had a nice balance of greens, hummus, "cheese" and bread. The deep fried cheese is absolutely next level!
If you are looking for a unique, fully vegan, friendly place in Budapest, you should absolutely give it a try!
Pros: Very nice food, Great atmosphere (cute dogs!), Friendly staff

Some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had. A lot of good mock meat/cheese on the menu but also just some amazing dishes with well-thought use of vegetables. Can’t wait to eat here again.
