Taiwanese restaurant that sells vege oyster pancakes, rice, noodles, pumpkin soup, and dumplings. Only the menu items that say “add egg” (加蛋) are ovo-vegetarian. The vegan counterparts say “don’t add egg” (不加蛋). Open Mon-Fri 11:30am-1:30pm, 5:00pm-7:30pm.

Oyster pancakes!!!

I periodically seek out veg*n restaurants just by brute force searching for them on Google Maps. This little neighborhood, family-owned restaurant discovery was the result of one of those searches.

I didn’t have trouble finding it in person with the help of Google Maps, and I was happy to see that their menu clearly indicates which items are ovo-vegetarian. (They don’t use dairy.) I marked my selections on a laminated paper menu and indicated that I would be dining in at table 4. The couple running here place told me to pay afterwards. I sat down with the shop dog until she wandered off.

My order of Chinese toon oyster pancake came out quickly, and the husband showed me the cooler bucket with complimentary grass jelly. Yes, please! I really enjoyed the oyster pancake: it was basically a wide stack of cabbage and bean sprouts with a little bit of soy protein and a layer of gooey-sticky, translucent pancake dotted with Chinese toon seasoning layered on top, all doused in ketchup.

I also ordered a Chinese toon flaky pancake, but I had to remind them of it since they had been a little busy with takeout orders. That one was just okay: the flavor was good, but I thought it could have been improved with a dipping sauce.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to friends looking for a cozy, stepped-into-someone’s-living-room ambiance. Very affordable and frequented by regulars.
