Nice place with great vegan food and live music - Edit
Really cool place to sit outside, cheap prices and live music (at least both times I was there). I have also heard of karaoke evenings. They have three clearly labeled vegan options: Vegan casserole, vegan pizza and imam biriyaldi (aubergine with tomato and more vegetables). Food was good, the staff also notices if you are vegan and brings vegan bread before the main dish (if not, take care of that). The cocktails are nice, too.

not vegan!!! - Edit
We arrived at the place with great anticipation to taste vegan options and were very disappointed. After checking out the dishes on the menu we ordered pasta with tomato and vegetable in the oven. We asked the owner a few times about the ingredients in the dish. At first he answered patiently but when we insisted on understanding what was in the dishes and whether there was milk, butter or anything else vegan, he started laughing at us and said: "Yes I put in milk, I put butter" and stuff. After the dish arrived we got overcooked pasta with some tomato spoons and garlic as a very disappointing sauce. We got the vegetables in the oven in a sauce that seemed strange to me with tomatoes and something white, and then we started to suspect. After insisting on checking again - it turns out it was creamy !! Disappointing and annoying. Do not recommend coming to the place.

Five years later it seems not like this anymore- clearly marked vegan options now and the staff seems very sensitive to this!

Simple vegan options - Edit
Finding vegan eats in Side was quite the challenge, and while the food at Surf Bar was nothing spectacular we were happy to have the option.
Read moreI had the vegan casserole which in itself was really good, the casserole had a nice flavour and large variety of veggies (even Brussel sprouts, yum). It came with a side of rice and some random cold steamed veggies which seemed like an afterthought, there wasn’t enough rice so would’ve just preferred more rice instead. Oh well.
My boyfriend had a vegetarian pizza without cheese which was a minor victory, as everywhere else so far in Turkey had flat out refused to do this for us.
When we got the bill we seemed to have been overcharged for the pizza. Turns out the vego pizza is listed on two different pages with two different prices, and the waiter said one was smaller hence the price difference (we had ordered the cheaper one but they billed us for the more expensive one on the other page). Bit cheeky.
Pros: delicious casserole, nice outdoor seating, knows what vegan is
Cons: check your bill
