Our party of five adults and four children, aged 1, 3, 3, and 6 had a lovely lunch on a late weekend afternoon. When we arrived around 1:30pm, there was no wait, so we arranged three small tables at the outdoor seating area, grabbed one of their nice new high chairs, and all sat near each other. You might suppose Peace Street would be a bit noisy for outdoor seating, but it absolutely wasn't. We enjoyed a barbecue chicken sandwich, two orders of kids' cheese quesadillas, an order of kids' grilled cheeese, an egg salad sandwich, and a pesto avocado cheese melt. Main dishes were all served with chips on indestructible metal plates. For drinks we had a cherry italian soda, lemonade, an Arnold Palmer, and two orders of iced tea (free refills on the those). Service was friendly and prompt, the food was beyond reproach, and the decor is also lovely. We would happily go back.
Great fresh food with lots of options. I've never been disappointed eating here. It does get very busy at lunchtime though and it can be a bit of a wait or you may not find a table. Overall I recommend it!
All of the vegetarian sandwiches can be made vegan if you ask for the cheese and other non-vegan toppings to be removed because the breads used are vegan! I had the veggie club without cheese and it was excellent. The staff was friendly and the café has a nice atmosphere.
I drove 1:15 from Pinehurst for this?! This place is vegetarian friendly, but hardly any more vegan friendly than any Chilis, Denny's or Olive Garden. There is nothing on the menu made specifically vegan, there is no vegan mayo, vegan cheese, or vegan specific anything. You can get something vegan through eliminating what is not vegan and end up with a vegetable sandwich with mustard. None of the desserts are vegan. There is absolutely nothing special about this place for vegans. I wouldn't drive across town for this place, let alone driving over an hour.
I asked the girl at the counter (counter service, cash only) which was the most popular item for vegans and she shrugged her shoulders and told me that they really don't get many vegans and that she really had no idea.
This place will tolerate vegans, but they are hardly what I would call vegan friendly.
Sunflowers has homemade, always fresh, and incredibly delicious food! The made to order sandwiches and yummy homemade soups (& don't forget the fresh-squeezed lemonade) are simply the best! You can't beat the quality and price at Sunflower's! And it's locally owned- so you're supporting the community when you eat here!
Deborah is a wonderful host and I recommend this restaurant as one of my top 3. The setting is elegant on the simplified side, you are treated well and the food is FRESH. They will work with you on vegan choices; still waiting for the vegan dessert though:) Lunch is great and dinner for two is even better. We miss Quinn but the kitchen does not miss a beat ...
