A gem in Bali 💎

I’ve attended this Balinese cooking class in Bali and it was marvelous!! They picked me up from the hotel, dropped me off again later. The location was quite a bit outside of Ubud, among rice patties, in a quiet residential area.

It’s a mixed cooking class, so some people use chicken, while me, the vegan, used tofu and tempeh. There were 9 dishes in total, all adjusted to be vegan 🌱 Actually, everyone made sweet sticky tempeh as a dish, which is vegan by default! Besides that we made #peanutsauce, tomato sauce (not your average kind), a raw bean salad with spices, a noodle dish (mie goreng), tofu with curry paste, tempeh saté (skewers), and banana leaves filled with tofu and mushrooms! Lastly we made dessert: klepon (or for Malay people: Onde-onde). It’s glutinous rice, filled with palm sugar, then boiled and rolled in coconut flakes!

The whole class took several hours. We made all pastes and sauces from scratch, only the tofu and tempeh was pre-made (by the family!). The food tasted so good and we ended up with a huge #buffet spread. I even took some home for next days lunch! 🤤

The family was so nice and friendly, spoke English well and made sure to accommodate and include all participants! Would 100% recommend this class to everyone
