Tasty deep fried mushrooms and vegetables

My partner and I got a large bag of mixed fried vegetables to share. We were going to get individual portions but the staff recommended we just get one to share as it's big. I wouldn't say it was really big enough for two people as a hearty meal but it did the job as a relatively light lunch for two.

I was impressed with the frying, everything was crispy and not greasy, even the paper bag the food came in barely had any oil stains on it. The selection in the bag was good, there were a few different types of mushroom with the little bunches of enoki mushrooms being my favourite pieces. There were also some slices of lotus root which had a good crunch to them. Then some needle flowers and gracilaria - I don't really know what they are but they were perfectly fine.

We were asked if we wanted it spicy and we asked for a little bit. I didn't get much heat from it but the overall seasoning was good.

We initially got there right at 11am which was the listed opening time but it wasn't open yet. We came back about an hour later and everything was up and running. A previous review mentions some millet buns but they don't appear to be on the menu anymore.

Dependable vegan food

Like most places in Ita Thao, this one closes early. By 7pm you’re rolling the dice -read on for options).
Tasty blend of fungi nutrition and the guilty pleasure of fried food. Possibly the best beer snack ever.
The woman offered me a mix of everything, it was cheap and I got a bag full, so you can eat and walk. Or take it to your hotel.
To round it out as a meal, I had some cabbage-topped tofu from a place about twenty metres down the road, same side of the street. You might see the word “vegan” on some signage (but it’s easy to miss).
As a back up, directly opposite Shmashuni is a stand selling grilled king oyster mushrooms, among other non-vege stuff.

Pros: Tasty, Variety of fungi, Cheap

Quick deep-fried snacks

This street stall in the busy Ita Thao shopping area is clearly labelled as vegan and also has an easy to read bilingual picture menu on the wall. You can choose your items to be battered and deep-fried to go. I really liked the millet buns, but my veggies were too greasy. This is certainly not the place for healthy food, but great for a snack while you wander the tourist area.

Pros: Fast service, Fully vegan, Cheap

Cons: Unhealthy, Greasy
