great place

Sooooo many choices! Everything is vegan. I had the tempeh reuben and my boyfriend had the bbq seitan sandwich. We also split the pierogi app. Everything was so good! We also grabbed a bunch of pastries to go for later.

Pros: completely vegan menu, wonderful sweets and desser

Cons: Too far away from my house (in Maine).

Yummy & a Cool place to Hangout!

We went for our Friday night Date Night, so glad we did. We got the Polenta fries, a marinara pasta dish, the Mexicali w/o the bun, a Brooklyn (alcoholic drink) and 2 desserts including the seasonal apple crisp. Everything was delicious, the staff was super friendly and professional.
We will definitely be returning!

Pros: Yummy vegan food in a cool neighborhood.

Cons: Would love more gluten free options.

Our Top Vegan Restaurant

Food is delicious and varied. Love the barrata and various seitan preparations. And of course the sweets are sensational -- even the modest little peanut and jelly squares. We buy the wonderful fresh mozzarella balls to take home.

Pros: Foods excellent, with some unusual selections., Great take-out opportunities (pastries, cheese), Very friendly service.

Cons: I can't think of any Cons.

Vegan mecca

Cookie dough pancakes?! What?! Not only is the food incredible, so is the service. Well lit displays. Grab and go breakfast croissants and English muffin sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, and plenty of sweets. Extensive menu in addition to grab and go. Counter and tables of dining in.

Wonderful

My husband and I really enjoyed our trip to Fare Well. What a great addition to the DC food scene!
We ate during Saturday brunch, and wanted to order everything. We ended up sharing a the burrata plate, seitan and waffles, a side of scrambled tofu, and bloody marys. It was all so good! The burrata was a delicious cashew and almond cheese ball served over arugala with crostinis, marinated tomatoes, capers, and pesto. Wow, it was good. The seitan and waffles were quite tasty as well. We got a blackberry lemon doughnut and a sticky bun to go for later. We really enjoyed everything. Only the scrambled tofu was so-so, but it was fine as a side for some extra protein.
We will definitely be hitting up Fare Well every time we are in DC.

Pros: Great menu selection, all vegan, Delicous Food, Lots of amazing bakery items

One our favorites on vacation

This place was the bomb. I absolutely loved that the items we had did not rely on fake meats or cheeses. Everything felt relatively healthy (except the pastries but that's to be expected). Definitely one of my favorite places we ate on vacation. The chickpea seitan was an awesome texture and the Mexicali burger had really delicious sauces. Super friendly staff.

Pros: Friendly Staff, Healthy-ish, Hip

Cons: None

Warning: You will want to order one of everything!

I love so many things about this place. The menu is incredible and everything delights. As I don’t live in DC and everything sounded great, I ordered an obscene amount of food plus some more to go. Two words: Vegan Burrata. Seriously, in 13 years of being vegan this was the first I had ever seen it on a menu and it was like a dream come true. The Buffalo Cauliflower Dip is also another gem (maybe my favorite) and the Mexicali Burger was tasty and full of flavor. I wish I could have checked out their brunch as the menu looks delicious. They do have a breakfast all day menu section too. There is indoor seating as well as a cute little courtyard out back where I opted to sit. Perfect for a gorgeous summer afternoon. They have a fill on bakery too and they make the best vegan croissant I have ever had – flaky, soft and buttery. They had probably a dozen or so different cakes, plus cookies, brownies, scones, pain au chocolat, etc. They also serve alcohol and have a cute little bar area.

The staff could not be nicer. Everyone was kind, friendly, attentive and helpful. It’s just a great place to go have a good meal. I sat out back in the garden and ended up befriending a fellow solo diner and sharing a meal together. It is that kind of place, you are going to like everything you eat and everyone you meet. I can’t wait to go back.

Tip: If you are taking the train out of DC, stop by first (it is walking distance – about 5 minutes) and grab some food to enjoy on the train ride home.

Pros: Menu Selections, Friendly Staff, Atmosphere

Desserts were Expensive for Quality

It's nice to have another all-vegan option in DC but my first trip was a bit disappointing. I ordered a slice of cookie dough cake, which was OK but not for the price ($8.80 for a slice). I also tried the gluten-free chocolate chip cookie, which was very sweet - it tasted like they were trying to hide the taste of alternative flours with sugar.

I am unlikely to visit again for desserts but may give their diner food a shot.

Pros: Friendly staff, All-vegan

Cons: Expensive, Mediocre desserts

Healthy food, well prepared, with friendly service

My brunch at Fare Well was great from start to finish. From the pastry and cappuccino to the chilaquiles for the mains, all was tasty and well prepared. (If you're used to authentic Mexican chilaquiles, note that these are not really that; they're essentially cheeseless nachos with a nice, subtle sauce, but still flavorful and satisfying.)

Service was warm, friendly, and helpful.

Enjoy!

Excellent service and food

We had a great brunch here today. The frittata was delicious, and the coffee, specifically decaf, was amazing. Free refills, too. On a nice day, try to get a table in the charming courtyard.

upsetting service/great food

My husband took me to Farewell today for Mother's Day brunch. I was so super excited because I'm a vegan but my husband is not. I try really hard to show him that he doesn't really have to miss out on anything nowadays. There are so many options out there!! So, after I saw all the pictures for Farewell I asked him to take me there for Mother's Day with our daughter.

We got there and it was full but we weren't concerned about it. It allowed us all to take a look around and look over the menu with some coffee. Our waiter came over and took our order. I ordered the Blueberry Pancakes, My husband got the Cookie Dough Pancakes and my daughter got the kids Pancakes. We ordered tofu scramble and potatoes to share. I can't explain how excited we were to eat!!

We waited, and waited, and waited and waited!!!!!! Our waiter assured us that the food would be out shortly. However, I doubt he even went to the kitchen to check because we waited for nearly an hour and 10 minutes before we spoke to the manager (because when we spoke to the waiter, he didn't even apologize!). My husband was extremely upset that our ordered was skipped over in the kitchen (As the manager had explained).

The manager was wonderful! Unfortunately, I did not catch her name but she comped all our meal, gave us an extra order of pancakes and gave my daughter a free cupcake. It was really heartbreaking for me to experience such bad service on Mother's Day....as I am trying to convince my husband to transition over.

As for the food: it was absolutely amazing!!! Every order of Pancakes, the tofu scramble, and the potatoes we delicious!!! We decided we will give it another shot since the food was so delicious. If it wasn't for the food being so amazing, we probably wouldn't return. But I believe, it's worth another try.

Pros: Food is amazing, Location is so cute, FOOD IS REALLY AMAZING

Cons: We had a bad server, Kitchen overlooked our order

delicious!

Had the chilaquiles & a stack of pancakes. Sooo good :) And their espresso coffee has a good kick to it! (It's rare to get good/strong coffee at a diner).

Stop by the baking section and grab some goods. Delicious!

Really Good Pancakes!

I came for the all day breakfast, so I was a little saddened that on Sunday, it's a limited breakfast. I ordered the pancakes and a tofu scramble and I was really surprised at how good the pancakes were. I mean really really really good! ?

Home run with the vegan cheese!

Tried several dishes over the course of a weekend and by far my favorite was the Burrata. Holy cow, it was incredible and definitely unforgettable!

Second favorite was the root beer float...yummmm!!

My least favorites were the Polenta Fries and the Caesar salad with seitan. The polenta fries were ok, just not to my liking. The salad was ok, but didn't taste anything like a traditional Caesar.

Really disappointed

I was really underwhelmed. The spinach kale melt was a giant hunk of baguette, (which was still nearly frozen in the middle) with marinara sauce and a small amount of pureed spinach/kale that must have been squeezed out of a tube, topped with a small slab of (decent) cashew ricotta. Salad was very basic too. And it was $17! Really disappointing. I wish I had eaten at the raw place next door which had some pretty cool looking things. This place has more trendy decor, but not trendy enough to make up for the food.

Pros: the deserts looked good, but I didn't try them

Cons: expensive , lackluster food

Great food

We ordered the pancakes and French toast casserole for brunch. Great food - only complaint is that they were out of a lot of the things on their menu (the frittata and a few of the non-alcoholic drinks we wanted to order)

The Future of American Fare

There's a revolution taking place in American food and Fare Well is on the cutting edge of it. We've eaten at Sticky Fingers before and it was good and fine. But now that they've opened a real restaurant, you can taste the same creativity they put into their baked goods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We happily stuffed ourselves on dinner, dessert, plus take out for breakfast and a couple of sandwiches for lunch the next day! Everything was great with a few highlights worth mentioning - the tofu scramble was amazing, the scampi was truly fine dining, the polenta fries were a real treat, the monkey bread is monkeylicious and the tofu salad hoagie made a awesome lunch!

Pros: VEGAN, nice selection , very friendly staff

Cons: limited seating, not nationwide

all-around awesome

I absolutely love this chill diner-bar. I'm in town for my sister's wedding, and my boyfriend and I went here for dinner with a friend last night. When the excitement and emotion of the weekend all caught up with me and I broke down at the table, the bartender surprised me with a cocktail on the house. The food was terrific too--I recommend the seitan platter, which comes with a flavorful gravy and rosemary potatoes and cabbage. Had a lovely quick chat with the chef, too.

Pros: kind and attentive service, excellent hearty flavorful food, booze and desserts!

Great Food!

Everything was delicious! From the buffalo cauliflower dip, the mushroom scampi pasta and the seitan platter as well as the cookie dough cake, we thoroughly enjoyed it all!

We sat at the bar and had fabulous service from the staff.

It was crazy busy after an event in DC and they handled it all with grace and good humor.

We will be back for sure next time we visit!

Pros: good variety, friendly staff, nice atmosphere

Cons: none

Great

Yum food, great cookies but warning, they say all day breakfast but the kitchen only opens mid morning around 11 or something so don't go before if you want something from the menu. Could only get cabinet food.
