BRAVO! Fantastic Vegan Options! - Edit
Happy Cow reserves 5-star ratings for fully vegan restaurants which is the ONLY reason I rated a 4. I am so excited to write about this restaurant. Not only is the vibe fully welcoming and cool, but the staff are friendly and upbeat as well. Located near the University of Pittsburgh with accessible street parking. FANTASTIC breakfast - Brussel sprout hash, chive biscuit breakfast sandwich (homemade flaky biscuit!), fresh Jade Kale juice and awesome oat milk latte. I couldn't rave more about how much I enjoyed this. Being a vegan restaurant owner myself, I feel like I approach out-of-state vegan options differently and this place made me so happy. They seem to partner with Zero Egg - which isn't really present on the west coast yet and I was pleasantly surprised to an alternative to JUST and Yo Egg. A must NOT miss if in Pittsburgh.

Decent option if in the area - Edit
I was staying at a hotel nearby with a vegan friend. This was a good option in the area. It was crowded but they move fast and we got seated pretty quickly. The cold brew was good. I didn’t love the vegan egg they used, i don’t think it was just egg? The texture seemed off. The vegan sausage and pancake were good. Friendly service.

Good options but meh - Edit
The food variety was excellent especially if you’re a vegetarian but the vegan options were just okay. Service was absolutely terrible and it wasn’t even crowded.

Very meh - Edit
They do have vegan options and for an area that doesn't have tons of vegan options, I guess that's something? We got the vegan breakfast burritos and they were OK, just very greasy so we honestly didn't even finish them. The pancakes also left a lot to be desired. The recovery Smoothie was actually really good; it's the only thing I would consider ordering again.

Friendly breakfast stop - Edit
I stopped in for breakfast while visiting from out of town. Loved the Very Vegan Brussels Sprouts Hash with mushrooms, carmelized onion and plant-based sausage (the Zero Egg was ok; they may do better to return to Just Egg) and the oat milk latte. Staff and space were inviting and friendly, with vegan options prominently highlighted on signs and menus.

Vegan Brunch options at Omni restaurant - Edit
Square Cafe is a great option when you're going out to eat with omnivores. There are clearly labeled options. I think it's a bit on the pricey side for the amount you get. Some of the dishes are super flavored and rely on the vegan substitutions like just egg on their own. Service is good and staff is knowledgeable vegan options. I would say it's a go-to for me because it's easy but not because it's the best vegan food out there. We don't have many brunch options in Pittsburgh.

Best V-Eggs Ever!! - Edit
Ordered the Very Vegan Breakfast Burrito and a side of tots. The tots are so crispy and delicious! The burrito came too hot to eat, so I had to let my food sit for a couple minutes. It was still way too hot, which made none of the flavors stand out. I took half home and ate it a couple hours later. Once it was at room temperature, it was so delicious!!!

Great mixed crowd spot - Edit
I had to laugh when the tofu scramble came out - I was expecting the scrambled up tumeric colored tofu and it was more like a stir fry with blocked tofu - BUT still really good. For a mixed vegan / non vegan crowd this place is tough to beat.

Just okay - Edit
They don’t have the tofu scramble anymore, which was a major bummer, but they do have vegan menu items clearly marked. Several of the vegetarian items can also be made vegan with a small swap (ex: tofu instead of an egg). The food was fine but nothing to go out of your way for, especially considering that the long waits on weekends are the stuff of Pittsburgh lore.
Read moreThe staff was polite but every single one of them looked like they’d rather be anywhere else, which makes me wonder about how great employees are treated. Service was fast enough but it was basically dropped on the table and the server disappeared immediately after making sure everything was fine.
