Great cauliflower tacos! - Edit
I loved the flavorful (but not spicy) encrusted cauliflower tacos! Plus I got the green smoothie which was tasty with lime and basil. They had a burger plus vegan omelette type options plus oatmeal and avo toast and big salads too. Upscale drink menu. Plus a coffee shop next door. Lively and friendly place. Stylish. Nice staff.

Great breakfast to start the day - Edit
I got there as soon as the restaurant side opened. Service was quick and the coffee was great. I was able to get my vegan breakfast gluten-free. I would definitely come back to this place again for breakfast. I wish they had a vegan-gluten free option in their grab and go area.

Cons: Get there early. It gets busy, Coffeehouse side is not very vegan friendly

Great food! - Edit
While they only have a few things for each meal - what they do have is quite good. The cauliflower tacos recommended by others are in our opinion, the best dish. We also tried their impossible burger and hummus - neither of which were great. The burger was over salty and the hummus was bland but passable. Cocktails were good however!
Read moreBreakfast was more of a hit. The avocado toast and vegan huevos divorciados were delicious and their coffee was very good.
Pros: Good food, Excellent service, Those cauliflower tacos!
Cons: Burger and hummus left a lot to be desired

Lots of Great Vegetarian Options - Edit
South now serves the Impossible Burger! You can get it with a regular or a vegan bun. Also, the breakfast veggie hash is delicious!

fun atmosphere - Edit
The cauliflower tacos and roasted tomato kale soup were pretty good, but the best part of our experience at South was watching the bustle of the early lunch crowd on a Saturday. We sat at the bar because there was a 45 minute wait for a table at 11:30 AM. The bartenders were very busy, very friendly, and a lot of fun. As others mentioned, the few vegan options were good, but limited, and I therefore wouldn't go back very often.

Not many options but very good - Edit
I ordered a Thai peanut bowl and it was very good! Very pricy but so was every restaurant I’ve been to in Alaska. Cute atmosphere, lots of cocktail options.

Great Breakfast! - Edit
Second time for breakfast. I would give five star but it is only allowed on a full vegan restaurant. Definitely my breakfast spot now! Quality, service and love. The only combo that truly makes a restaurant work. They have it all.

sure, I'd go back... - Edit
overall, I suppose this was technically a positive experience. I dined with two other guests (all vegan table) and we shared a trio of dishes. outside of el green go's [outdoor taco truck], this was easily one of the better dining experiences I've had in anchorage, and certainly the most contemporary in terms of ambiance.
Read moreI mean this kindly - because we're talking about anchorage, alaska - but it was akin to a calmer california pizza kitchen inside. vegan options are not many, but what is there is clearly marked and interesting enough, and bonus points for not having to leave out an ingredient, because that is lame in this day and age ! the clear win were the cauliflower tacos - crispy cauli, one or two sauces, fresh cilantro, decent tortillas, and affordably priced for two, or an add one additional one for $3 (perhaps you can add on a third if you're sharing? that would be swell).
next up was the mushrooms ajillo, which had inviting flavor and were served hot with a piece of high quality baguette. now, on the downside, it's a stretch to say the amount of baguette was enough to split between two people, and it came leaning into the very hot oil the mushrooms and (sparse, in my opinion) chilis were floating in. again, this is alaska and the heat low is typically wanting, and I really can't say the "chili" part of the dish was more than a mild note and the amount of oil the mushrooms (quartered creminis, I reckon) are served in with certainly horrify the clean-eating vegans out there.
our third dish was the herb-marinated spanish olives, and I was borderline mortified to see these were cocktail olives - who cares if they were even a "product of spain", sigh - that were flavored with a TON of cumin and enormous cloves of garlic. the flavors were off-putting, and it's an embarrassment to see a real restaurant charge $6 for a bowl of freaking cocktail olives stuffed with pimento I would at best, want in my dirty martini or bloody mary, and even then, I was really hoping for a nicer olive. I hesitated to have these taken off the check, but one at our table was into it.
overall, sure, I'd go back and get tacos, but I hope no one else but the true standard pimento-olive enthusiast ever order that olive dish.
solid microbrews on tap, though priced a bit high
Pros: tacos, location - not downtown, microbrews
Cons: those olives, those olives, did I mention those olives?

Mediocre Food, uses veal stock - Edit
The building itself is nice. The food is good but nothing spectacular and a bit overpriced for what it is. There is a $1 up-charge for non-dairy milk in breakfast or coffee items. The French onion soup features “slow simmered rosemary veal stock.”
Read moreThere are vegan options clearly labeled for when my friends insist on this restaurant. Given the choice, I would just rather spend my money elsewhere.
Pros: clearly labeled options, environment
Cons: use of veal, overpriced, non-dairy upcharge

A few, but good options - Edit
I have been there for brunch and dinner, both times were good, but I was never blown away by anything. Ambiance is very nice, but service can be a little slow.

Surprise find - Edit
A surprise find in a meat- heavy city. The Thai rice bowl is delicious with first rate peanut sauce and generous serving of yummy veggies. Can also add tofu. Also recommend roasted tomato and kale soup and sorbets. Vegan item are marked and staff is very accommodating.
