Wonderful Thai meal

We had a great meal at Lai Thai with many vegan options. The chive dumplings were on the specials menu and they were silky and delish! The vegetable green curry with tofu was spicy but not overwhelming.

Delicious, clean, cozy, & friendly

Got take-out from here (ordered at the counter and waited ~25 mins). The guy running the show was very busy between eat-in diners (there were several tables full, and well spread out), phone calls (LOTS of take-out order pick-ups while I was there), and delivery drivers. Still, he was very friendly - he was super efficient, too. I noticed that ALL the staff were wearing good masks (yes, I peeked in the kitchen's open door). This is actually unusual, as the staff at some of my fave places don't always wear masks properly.

Our meals (A6 Tao hoo tod - fried tofu; A3 veggie spring roll; R45 pineapple fried rice w/tofu; V66 veggie pad thai w/tofu mock duck) were all very good. In the top 3 of Thai restaurants for sure. We appreciated that he asked us if egg was ok when we ordered the pineapple fried rice w/tofu. There were an abundance of veg'n options on the menu (accessed online or on location via the window or the counter). Most dishes had a "tofu" or "vegetables" option for protein choice, with some indicating mock duck as an option. My tofu pieces in the app and my dish were PERFECTION. Possibly the best I've ever had. Juicy, crispy, fluffy goodness.

Their interior ambience is uniquely lovely. Feels both fancy and cozy at the same time, with lots of space to spread diners out. I've dined-in before and appreciated the appointments at the table, as well as the service.

I visited the ladies room while there and found it to be a very clean (again, unusually so), single stall, with updated decor and no fragrance or other issues. Even the faucet and the soft-close seat lid were wonderful touches. The gravity wing/flip-lid trash can is near the doorknob and light switch so you can use the towel to contact both before you leave and then toss it in the trash, all while keeping hands off of high-touch surfaces.

The restaurant is located in a long strip mall with several good-looking options (indian, chinese, japanese, pizza place, mexican, etc.) so if your party has many tastes, you can just visit one location. Also, lots of parking and easy access to main roads. We ate here after a few hours at the beautiful Blueberry Hill nature area.

I'd give Lai Thai 4.8 on an expanded scale. The app won't let me do 5 stars.

Pros: Lots of veg'n dishes, Very clean, Tasty food

Cons: No outdoor dining (as of 10/2), Far from my house, Take-out counter is deep inside the restaurant

Standard Thai- beef in tofu dish!

The food here was standard Thai, nothing I’d remember. I found the place through this site and was so disgusted to find a chunk of real beef in my tofu and vegetable dish that I ordered off of the vegetarian menu! I haven’t eaten meat for 27 years and it ruined the whole meal for me because I didn’t know if there was more. Beware!

Pros: Mock dock , Well priced

Cons: They put actual beef in my veggie and tofu dish , Food was just ok

My Favorite!!

I love Som Sak! It is my favorite place to get excellent Thai cuisine in the South Jersey area. I have been going here for 5+ years, and the owners and staff are wonderful!

There are numerous selections for vegetarians and vegans. Tofu (fried or fresh) and/or mock duck (get it deep fried) can be added to any order. Eggs can also be removed from dishes (pad thai/fried rice) to make vegan. Everything is delicious!

They have great lunch specials, even on Saturdays, and they allow you to pick other items not listed (ex. you can order spring rolls instead of a salad or something else).

Two of my favorite dishes are the mixed veggies in yellow curry sauce (I get fresh tofu added) and the vegetarian pad kee mao (with mock duck added).

Since this is a non-veg restaurant, Happy Cow tells me I can only give 4 stars at most, but Som Sak is definitely a 5! I highly recommend!

Pros: delicious, lunch special, the best staff
