Amazing menu

Menu is always changing and is the most creative vegan menu I have ever seen. When we went we were lucky enough to go when they had pierogies, best thing I've ever ate! Desserts are excellent too

Pre-Opening Proves Promising!

We were lucky enough to nab a spot at Soil's 3-day pre-opening to sample a few of the dishes and to check out the space before the official opening on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

The sample menu included items, which we opted to try, such as a mushroom & herb soup, harvest tart, grilled cheese, beet and celeriac ravioli, amongst others (please see photo for more).

Hopefully, we will be returning after opening to update this review, but for now, here are my thoughts on the preview:

The soup was immensely flavourful and delicious. I would come back for this in a heartbeat. It was the perfect blend of fresh mushrooms and herbs, great for a cold day.

The harvest tart had the most sensational aroma, but the taste unfortunately did not follow as much. Although the crust was delicious, the filling fell a bit flat flavour-wise, especially the lima beans. I'd have liked a bit more garlic or onion, or even a cream cheese topping to liven this up.

The grilled cheese was interesting - this was in the form of a flat stroopwafel, with a side of caponata, corn relish and kimchi cucumber. Again, the flavour did not come through at all, which was surprising, as this was supposed to have had the Blue Heron Smoke 'n Spice cheese and a mostarda. Perhaps adding a bit more cheese or trying this on a different bread type would help?

And lastly, what we definitely felt was the highlight of the meal, was the Beet & Celeriac Ravioli. This was a winner in many ways, but one of the highlights of this dish was the celeriac spirulina cream. I don't know how this had tasted so good, but am hoping to experience a lot more of it, and hopefully with different dishes!

All in all, this is a wonderful breath of fresh air in our Main Street hood, and I'm so excited to see Soil grow and evolve with its neighbour, Blue Heron!

More updates to hopefully follow...

Pros: Blue Heron's Restaurant Counterpart, Local, Sustainable and Organic, Interesting twists on foods and flavours!

Cons: Some menu items could use more flavour
