We had the vegan fish and chips made with banana blossom, and it was the first time we tried it — absolutely delicious and a great surprise.

We are at the Social Club while on a trip at Taupō. The vibe is super chill and the vegan fish and chips are great! The steak fries were amazing and so was the Dream Catcher mocktail. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for vegan food on the lake shore!

Generally all the options were banana blossom (fish and chips, burger or tacos) but it was a really good portion, and they let me swap to sweet potato fries and didn't charge extra. It was a nice setting with a lively view of the lake. They also had apple crumble for dessert but for me was too much so didn't try. I was driving but they had some nice cider flavours too.

My boyfriend loved the vegan Fish and Chips and the vegan Fish Burger was just divine! Even the vegan dessert option (Rhubarb and Apple Crumble) was delicious, although you have to specify that it has to be fully vegan because of the ice cream it is served with.

We went there for dinner and really enjoyed the vegan fish and chips. Portions were huge so we couldn't fit in any dessert. Went back for breakfast the next day - I appreciated them doing something more exciting than avocado toast, but did find the coconut cream mushrooms a bit weird.

Quite a few dedicated vegan options on the menu, including a dessert.
Read moreMost of the vegan mains use a battered banana blossom ‘fish’ as the main component, which is fine because it tasted SO GOOD. The cocktails and dessert were also really tasty.
The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Was pleasantly surprised that the accommodation I booked also had a restaurant with some vegan options, clearly marked. I had the curry and it was delightful. Good flavours, decent size, and good dose of tofu and brocoli. The staff were lovely, and the views of the lake are great.

Great vegan banana blossom ‘fish’. Three of us had dinner here, two had the vegan fish and chips and one had the vegan fish burger with a brioche bun which we were told was vegan.

Delicious vegan options with a view - Edit
The vegan fish tacos were amazing and my friend had the vegan fish and chips which she loved. The vegan hot chocolate was so lovely and we had such good service - they were all so happy to serve us and so happy to make us happy. We sat by the windows as well which was lovely, with a great view of Lake taupo and snowy mountains.

Nice surprise above hotel - Edit
After randomly selecting a hotel in Taupo (Lakefront Lodge Taupo), it was a very pleasant surprise to find the restaurant/bar above the hotel and a very decent range of vegan options. I ordered the vegan fish and chips, made from banana blossoms, which was an excellent replica. The vegan breakfast plate was enjoyable as well, although the tofu scramble wasn’t seasoned much.

Ordered the vegan breakfast and the restaurant was out of Tofu for the scramble. All other options were vegan fish for whatever reason. Ended up subbing out the scrambler for mushroom in coconut cream sauce that wasn’t on the menu.

Great location with an amazing view. Staff understand vegan choices and chef makes a lot of vegan food. Nice and relaxed place and even better if you grab a first table. Suitable for everyone as options to suit all. Great cocktails too 😊
