Cute, cozy, inviting and delicious - Edit
I was so thrilled to discover the vegan brownies here. They’re the best I’ve had and the price makes them even better. Unfortunately it’s 40 minutes from my place in Astoria, but wholly worth the drive. We go over few weeks and stock up. There are also other vegan options (a muffin and sometimes banana bread) as well, so you are covered. The coffee is also great and the staff is wonderful. It gets crowded, but they zip through the line quickly.

Great coffee - long wait - Edit
We got an iced cold brew and a dirty chai on oat. Service was friendly and helpful but the wait was about 20min. I think our pace at home must be much quicker than America because coffee is always a wait even if places are quiet. Nice spots to sit out in the sun. Public toilets across the road.

Best dirty chai yet - Edit
Nice homey small place by the beach (Cannon Beach), and they have semi-limited choices compare to most of non-chain cafes. I’m not really a coffee-drinker which promotes me to try their dirty chai. The drink was surprisingly pretty good, a bit better than the one at my favorite cafe in Salem (theirs is a bit more sweeter). The baristas are extremely friendly and warm (are the coastal folks like this??) which make this unique cafe more welcoming than the bucks with stars. Highly recommended!!

Limited options but cute vibe and really friendly staff - Edit
Alt milks (oat and soy), a vegan brownie, spiced oat bread, and bagels (but no vegan spreads). One of the people that works there is vegan and they were SO NICE, they tossed in an extra brownie and oat bread and they were commiserating about how challenging it was to find options in Cannon Beach. My wife also reached out ahead of time to scope out vegan options and Sleepy Monk was really good about responding and providing details on vegan options.

Great coffee - Edit
The coffee beans here are the best and the prepared coffee drinks are good. (They do add a plant based milk "tax")
Read moreThere are vegan options for snacks but have not tried any.

Cons: None dairy "tax"

Thank you for appreciating the hard work of our baristas and roasting team. We do our best to honestly reflect the extra cost for us to purchase plant-based milk options, it's hard to source enough oat and soy milk on the North Coast. We started providing oat milk as an option too!
Read morein2insight
I appreciate the response. However, every single grocery store carries plant based milk on the Coast including Costco and the restaurant source location.
Read moreI could not find any posting in your lovely store showing the extra charge for plant based milk.
While it may be true that plant based milk is more expensive it does not need to be refrigerated (until opened) so less expense to store it.
Last, with all the above being said, the charge is out of proportion with the actual true coast. All the extra charge really does is discriminate against those who can't, or choose not to, drink animal derived milk and add to coffee shops bottom line.

Thanks for visiting Sleepy Monk, glad you enjoyed the drinks and goodies. We are in process of adding oat milk, but at this point don't have a source that can provide our business with enough oat milk to make it an option. Hope you had a wonderful time in Cannon Beach.

Cute little coffee shop - Edit
We were able to get our drinks with vegan milks (soy and almond were available)The vegan pastries were delicious! Their brownie is one of the best I ever had and the chai oat bread was out of this world! The staff was super friendly. You might experience a wait line, but it’s worth it; our drinks were ready pretty quickly after our order was placed. I believe only outdoor seating was available.

A resounding “Meh” - Edit
The only offerings for plant-based milks are almond and soy milk, neither of which go particularly well in coffee. Expecting the barista to be well-versed with the drinks they could make, I requested something hot and sweet with soy milk so that I could get a taste of this cafe’s personality, but the barista seemed to only get confused. To avoid delaying the line outside, I ordered a dark drip with a splash of soy milk, which turned out to be pretty watery in the end and the soy milk separated badly.
Read moreWe also asked not to have lids to avoid the plastic waste, and we noticed that they took the lids off and threw them away just before handing us our drinks.
On the bright side, the brownie was pretty tasty, although it does start falling apart as soon as you start to eat it.
Pros: Some vegan pastry options
Cons: Limited plant-based milks, Mediocre service
SleepyMonkCoffee
Hmm, sorry you didn't have the ideal Sleepy Monk experience. We can make any of our drinks with alternative milk, our specialty drinks would have surely hit the spot. As for the drip coffee, we have a range of options from medium roast to french roast that rotate constantly, we brew with the same standard ratio of grounds...but there is always a chance the scale was off. Either way, if your ever unsatisfied, please let us know. We are happy to fix mistakes on our end.
Read moreAs for the lids, sometimes when things are busy we make mistakes(sorry about that, we appreciate you reducing plastic waste). Due to health codes, we can't reuse them but they went in our recycle bin not the trash!

Super torn - Edit
My hubby and I stopped here for mochas and dessert. None of their chocolate or choc sauces were vegan which was dissapointing. We ordered vanilla lattes instead and I think their almond milk was bad because they tasted sour. Neither of us could drink more then a sip or two. The desserts and the friendly service were plusses and the only reason this place got 3 stars.
Read morePros: A very few vegan desserts and forms of coffee, Friendly service, Cute environment
Cons: No vegan chocolate syrup for mochas, Very small selection of vegan types of coffee, Sour almond milk?
SleepyMonkCoffee
Sorry we don't have vegan chocolate syrup, our baking team makes our chocolate sauce fresh every morning. We try to provide options to accommodate everyone. All of our coffee beans and brewed coffee is vegan! The almond milk shouldn't have been sour, we stock up weekly..it doesn't sit around long enough to go bad. Please let our team know if you are unhappy with your drink next time, that way we can remedy the situation. We appreciate your review!

Vegan brownies were great! - Edit
$3 for a massive chunk of chocolatey goodness, the barista told me to "pick the one that looks the best to [me]" I got a corner piece with extra delicious crusty edges. Good coffee (many options) and nice atmosphere with pleasant Celtic decorations all over. Small with limited seating but just take your treats to the beach.
