Expensively "fine" - Edit
Everything is pricey on the coast but getting expensive, mediocre vegan food isn't my favorite...

It's fine. - Edit
They have vegan options and they're in Cannon Beach, so take what you can get. The food isn't great, but we went back twice since options are so limited in town. Both times we got takeout and ate on the beach, which was lovely. The ginger lime bowl is vegan and honestly was ok. The mushroom banh mi can also be made vegan if you leave the aioli off, but it's pretty dry without any sauce. For my toddler we got the kids burger (no cheese, sub vegan black bean patty) and fries. The burger was pretty burnt, my daughter took one bite and spit it out, but naturally she loved the fries haha. Next time I'd just do the ginger lime bowl and fries.

Ginger Lime Portobello Bowl - Edit
Would not recommend. This meal was all over the place with flavor. Half was hot, half was cold and the flavors all clashed. It’s like they were trying to pull off a fusion dish but with too many types of food. Definitely not worth the price. Maybe if the chef tried the vegan options before putting on the menu it would taste better. Don’t really imagine anyone enjoying this meal.

Very limited. - Edit
I enjoyed my time there with my partner, the environment was welcoming and fun. Server was super nice as well. The menu only had two vegan options from what I could tell - it ended up being super spicy for me with no protein which I didn’t really enjoy. I’d like to come back when more options are available.

$20 for a few vegetables. As good as the cauliflower steak was, at $20 this seems a bit much for what you get.

They no longer have the quinoa cakes described in the Happy Cow description. And in their menu in the burger section it says you can sub with a vegan black bean patty. I tried to order as a side and fortunately the server informed me it has ‘whey” and is no longer vegan so I didn’t order it. But they should take the note about it being vegan off their menu. Yes the Cauliflower steak is good, but another choice would be nice.

The vibe is happening, there are 2 fire pits on the patio which provide a nice spot to sit white you wait for a table. Kid and dog friendly. Very busy place . I recommend.

Not a lot of options but there are salads and then the amazing cauliflower steak. Can't remember if we had to ask them to hold the parmesan on the cauliflower steak though.

Underwhelming - Edit
Before I became a vegan, I loved the Pelican, but I don’t think I’ll visit again unless they up their menu. We got the spicy Korean cauliflower as an appetizer which was delicious but expensive for what it was. The cauliflower steak also seemed way too expensive so we opted for salads which were underwhelming. I hope they add more vegan options in the future!

Good food, just minimal options - Edit
Two vegan options, both cauliflower based. The Korean BBQ cauliflower app was amazing. Entree was 8oz cauliflower slabs with tomato/pepper sauce. Both were good options if you are really just there for the beer. But minimal variety and no protein.

The menu has definitely been paired down. There’s only two options that come vegan as is that are both cauliflower based. Two salads that can be modified to be made vegan. I got a black bean burger which was just fine but was nearly $20 and incredibly basic. Our server informed me their fries are not vegan friendly.

Great lunch! - Edit
I had the walnut tacos, made vegan by omitting the chipotle aioli. They were full of flavor in spite of missing that (delicious) ingredient. Along with a beer and some fries (didn’t think in advance about them being fried with the fish) I was a happy luncher!

Limited but good - Edit
I was really torn about the star rating, but if I compare to Sweet Basil’s, this was not as good, so I went with three...
Read moreThe vegan options are all modifications of vegetarian dishes, nothing comes vegan as is, except the beer, which is vegan per Barnivore. The beer was good and reasonably priced. I had the Beak Bender IPA, very tasty, which is the recommended pairing with the quinoa cake entree. I tasted my boyfriend’s Sea ‘n Red ale and it was also very good. I also got 4 samples, all of which are free except the barley wine. It was my first time trying barley wine- it has a strong alcohol and umami flavor like soy sauce-ish. I didn’t finish it but I satisfied my curiosity. I was not into the cream ale but it was good for what it is. I also tried two seasonals (we were there late December): Bad Santa black IPA, which was decent, and Cookie Monster brown ale, which I loved and bought a quart can of that one. We did walk out with a six pack of the red ale too and I would’ve gotten the Beak Bender but they only had Beak Breaker (a double IPA) bottled.
Onto the food- it’s disappointing that nothing comes vegan as is, and this is not 1) an inexpensive meal, or 2) a good place for people who have issues with grill contamination. The vegan options are there, but limited. I did order the quinoa cake, and unlike other reviewers, I did not think it was bland. It had a nice texture and flavor, and the mushrooms and roasted tomatoes were yummy. It also came on a bed of arugula and had some Brussels sprouts too.
Because another reviewer said it was bland without the sauce, I asked for a side of blackberry peppercorn dressing, and I was really impressed by the dressing! Classic PNW flavor. I tried a couple of my boyfriend’s fries and I didn’t think they tasted fishy, but I did have a bit of fishy aftertaste at the end of the meal. I love Brussels sprouts and they were good with the blackberry dressing but were the least well executed item on the plate.
The beer is a solid win. They should sell bottles of that blackberry dressing. The food was a generous portion and was good, but I do wish they had fully vegan food options with no mods and I wish they had less cross contamination issues.
Pros: Good vegan beer, Vegetables were cooked well, had good texture
Cons: Expensive , No as-is vegan dishes, Cross contamination

At least they tried - Edit
The vegan options are all clearly marked on the menu and servers seem very knowledgeable about vegan ingredients. However, the main vegan entrée, the sweet potato quinoa cake, was bland since the sauce was removed to make it vegan. On a summer evening it's very busy and the food wasn't worth the 45 minute wait.

Ummm... not really Vegan - Edit
Vegetarian options yes. Vegan not so much. Fries/onion rings made in same oil as fish. Black bean patty contains egg. There is one valid non salad vegan option on menu. Also apparently the aoli sauce is vegan, but we didn’t know this till after we ordered and eaten. Overall we were dissatisfied. The best part is our dog was welcome on the patio. Also beer was good but could not confirm Pelican brewing as a vegan friendly brewery. If you like mushrooms you will have a couple of good vegan options. For me I was left with a green salad, with dried cranberries, slivered almonds and a raspberry dressing.

Rare find in a modern pub. Vegan hash was the special, paired with the quinoa salad that had just the right amount of quinoa. Both with excellent flavors. Not really clearly labeled and the server was not especially knowledgeable, so make sure to ask a lot of questions.

Excellent veg options in Cannon Beach - Edit
In Cannon Beach, there are not many great options for vegetarian/vegan food. One wonderful surprise is Pelican Brewing, where many dishes are vegetarian, and can be made vegan. The menu is clearly labeled. In addition, the veg options are flavorful, reasonably healthful, and original (not the typical afterthought on the menu but carefully designed beautiful and delicious dishes. We enjoyed a sweet potato-quinoa cake and a veggie hash with all the fixings. Excellent!

Very neat and fun environment. Had the portabello burger with a salad. It was very good but also very pricey. My dinner was close to $15, with one beer made it $20. Very good service however! Would go back.

Good Beer and Food - Edit
We were staying at a nearby RV park and checked out Pelican Brewing just to grab a beer. After looking at the menu we decided to return the next day for dinner. With little options for vegans in this small coastal town we were pleasantly surprised! They mark on the menu which items can be made vegan and there was more than a few. We inquired about the black bean burger and found out it was vegan! I ordered the Quinoa Cakes and it was elegantly presented and the sweet potatoes mash was delicious. My hubby got the black bean burger with fries. It was a nice size burger and rounded out his beer.

Pros: vegan options, Mmmmm, beer!
Cons: beggers can't be choosers so I say no con's!
