Amazing - Edit
Cauliflower pita was delicious! I'd come back just for that. My husband really enjoyed his fennel pita. The plaintain fries were great too. I liked that even though it was a fast casual restaurant, they had tap beer and wine on the menu. Overall wonderful vegan experience.

Just hit up Shouk and had the burger. It was awesome! Maybe best vegan burger I've had. Also, like most vegan places, the store had a great energy and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back and try other stiff!

So good! - Edit
The food is simple but delicious. The kind of food that you put in your mouth and feels a "wow". We got the hamburger, the lentil soup and the mushroom pita and all were amazing! For the road we got the polenta fries, which were too salty to the point of being inedible, and the cookie which was moist and awesome! The service was fast, sweet and warm. The cashier knew we were out of town, since everyone that are from the DC area eat there once and become a regular. I believe her.

Shouk does it right, again and again! - Edit
From the moment you enter Shouk, you find a clean, welcoming oasis for a vegan feast or snack (take your pick).
Read moreThe food is fresh and leaves a good feeling in one's stomach during the meal and long after.
Don't miss the great harissa hot sauce and lentil soup to accompany any meal.
My only regret is that they do not accept tips. In fact, the cashier put my cash tip back in my pocket when I tried leaving a currency tip on the counter.
Be ready to pay by credit or debit card. No cash is handled here.
Pros: Great food, Great energy, Friendly and efficient staff

Delicious Middle Eastern with a Modern Twist - Edit
The excellent reviews of this restaurant brought me here. When I walked in, I had a great feeling about this place. The decor is super cool, with wooden shelves showcasing various sauces and spices against the brick walls, and clean and sturdy wooden tables.
Read moreThe staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the Shouk burger and polenta fries. The veg burger was substantial, but I was quite hungry, and enjoyed every bite. The polenta fries were unusual, with a wonderful taste of rosemary and other spices.
For a quick, inexpensive lunch DC, this is a wonderful option.
Pros: Wonderful decor, Excellent food, Excellent service

Burger was great! - Edit
I was in DC for a few days and glad this place was within walking distance of my hotel. I got the burger (no bun - over greens) and it was great! Super filling and flavorful. The sauces it came with were great too.

I need this place in CA - Edit
I'm in D.C. For 5 days and I have eaten at Shouk 6 times. It's that good
Read moreThe burgers are famous (and delicious) but my favorite thing is the breakfast pita.
Only thing I can not recommend is the drinks. I tried each separately and combined and I just did not like it.
Super cool atmosphere and fun and informative staff.
Hey Shouk how about a San Francisco location???
Pros: insanely delicious , great staff, fun vide
Cons: house made drinks, somewhat spendy, too far from my home

Tasty, filling, friendly, and mostly healthy - Edit
True to its name, Shouk is a lively place full of flavors and colors. It does a well-conceived balancing act between comfort food and health consciousness. Fries with that? Yes, but choose polenta fries or sweet potato fries. And there are three interesting salad options.
Read moreShouk is not a falafel joint: the offerings are creative and multicultural, though inspired by the Middle East. If you're into spicy, try the harissa.

Consistently Delicious & Healthy Vegan Fare - Edit
Have been to Shouk about half a dozen times and find it consistently delicious - with great staff and excellent healthy vegan fare.
Read moreIt's about a three minute walk from the D.C. Convention Center - so definitely worth the walk if you're at a conference.
My favorite dish is the Breakfast Pita - which is a veggie omelette (from chickpea flower), Israeli salad, and crushed avocado. It's superb! All of the pita dishes can be served over rice and lentils (mujadra), if you want to lessen the gluten or carbs of eating pita.
We love the polenta fries. The sweet potato fries are good too.
There's not a lot of places to sit - so you might want to come early during rush times, or have someone grab seats while you order. There's outdoor seating too when the weather is nice. Parking is a drag too - but it's close the the Mt. Vernon Square/Convention Center Metro Stop.
Staff are very friendly and give the restaurant a great vibe.
Pros: Close to Convention Center & Verizon Center, lots of delicious options , non-bread options (mujadra bowls)
Cons: not many seats, not a lot of parking

Shouk = A+ - Edit
Shouk is a wonderful restaurant for vegans. My family & I found this place via HappyCow, and we ended up going back there for nearly every meal because it was close by our hotel, and Shouk's food was so much better than the hotel's! The staff were extremely friendly & remembered us when we returned the next day. There is variety in the menu. Shouk is a place that you should definitely check out!

Shouk is legit - Edit
Shouk is doing everything right: awesome unique food, friendly staff, modern space, and it's all vegan. The owner (who is hanging around the shop almost all the time) is super friendly and helpful. They call their food "plant-based," which is probably smart since "vegan" can scare people off. The food is interesting, creative, and tasty. My husband especially loves how it's all plants and there's no faux-cheese or faux-meat patties just to cater to Western-diets. Shouk doesn't shy away from spicy. It's maybe a bit on the pricey side, but I really want Shouk to succeed (their location is odd), so we try to visit often. We need more proud 100% vegan restaurants in the world!

The cauliflower, mushroom, and fennel pitas rock! - Edit
Shouk has consistently excellent Moroccan vegan food. The cauliflower pita has homemade creamy tahini, tomato, scallion, and parsley. The way the flavors come together is amazing, and it is one of my favorites.
Read moreThe mushroom pita is a close runner up, with big slices of portobello mushroom, cauliflower, asparagus, arugula, tahini, and za'atar. I am a serious mushroom lover and can't wait to get this as a bowl next time. (All pitas can be made into a bowl of rice and lentils.)
My third favorite is the fennel pita, which includes potato, red pepper, and pistachio pesto. This has a unique taste, very refreshing. I loved this more than expected.
The most popular selling item at Shouk is now the Shouk burger, voted the best DC veggie burger. I found the Shouk burger to be a bit too spicy and missed the flavor combinations of the cauliflower or mushroom pitas. It is definitely a tasty veggie burger that draws long lines of customers, but I would rather have a pita.
The polenta fries with tomato sauce were good, but I found that ordering the cauliflower pita was enough for me. The sweet potato fries with cashew labneh are said to be good, but I haven't tried them yet.
I also was told the beet tahini is excellent and will try it one day, along with the ratatouille pita and other pitas I have yet to try. I also haven't tried the Shouk salad yet but read it is good.
Shouk just came out with a new breakfast burrito that includes chickpeas and avocado. I haven't tried it yet as i am so in love with the pitas.
The price tag for a pita is nearly $10 and for fries nearly $5. That can seem very pricey, but these are pitas made from the freshest ingredients, including tahini and veggie burgers made in house.
During lunch hour, the lines can be longer and seats hard to find. The atmosphere is meant to be like a Moroccan shouk, with long tables and somewhat uncomfortable stools. Sometimes it can be hard to find a seat during the busiest times.
Shouk has consistently great food and is definitely worth the trip!
Pros: The cauliflower and mushroom pitas rock!, Pitas can be made into rice and lentil bowls., The staff is great, and the ingredients are fresh!
Cons: The seats can be hard and uncomfortable., Seating is very limited, especially during lunch., Some of the food can be too spicy or salty.

Odd Flavors - Edit
It's nice that it's vegan but I can't believe how many people rated this place 5 starts. The food is mediocre at best. Very strange and conflicting flavors. The pita bread was nice as was the spicy harissa bust that's about it. Is was pricy but we are in DC so it's expected. I had the burger and my hubby had a pita. It was just ok. There are many much better places in the area. Overall I would NOT recommend.
