Underwhelming - Edit
Tried out their takeout menu which was completely underwhelming. The pumpkin katsu curry was fine, nothing offensive, but for over £10 it’s not good either. Katsu curry cubes from Tesco would deliver the same result.
Read moreAlso tried their onigiri (rice sandwich) which was tasty but again, super overpriced, and lacked any sauce or other to hold the filling together. This is presumably because their usual mayo and teriyaki sauces aren’t vegan, and they didn’t bother having any alternative on hand
Would not go back

Vegan options but nothing special - Edit
Had the aubergine & pak choi teriyaki bowl on a deal for £5. It was tasty and a good sized portion but I wouldn't have been happy to pay the full price of £11 for it. The red sushi roll was nice but nothing special. Fine if going with friends, but so many other nice Asian places to eat if you're looking for a delicious meal.

Expensive and bland - Edit
Clear vegan options but the mushroom ramen was tasteless and the sushi was average. Over £40 for a few options, left hungry.

Clearly labelled vegan sushi options. - Edit
Cafe with small number of tables and also vegan sushi boxes to take away. Some vegan hot food options as well. Clear labelling (including wine!) if you are sitting in.

Recieved fish sushi - Edit
I got food delivered and some of the sushi was made with fish. Called the restaurant and they would not refund or send out a replacement, nor were they apologetic. The vegan sushi I did eat was nice but not amazing. Would probably try again but only when sitting in the restaurant.

Good take out option. - Edit
I had walked past on several occasions and decided to get some take out. A good selection of vegan options and we opted for a vegan sushi set and a maki set between us.
Read moreThe staff were very nice and the food was great. plenty of variety and no shortage of soy sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi. (the downside was the packaging).
Overall if you are in the mood for sushi Shinsen is very close to town and worth trying.
Pros: good choices, staff, location
