Fresh yummy food, nice portions

The gormeh sabzi was delicious. The food came very quickly and there were huge portions. The lunch special was enough for two meals for me. I appreciated the reviews that talked about the vegan menu. It was extensive.

Pros: Fresh, Fast, Portions

Cons: Not all vegan

Mum told me to give it 5/5

Went here with my parents, and I had plenty of vegan options. Neither of us could finish our dishes and we brought home doggie bags. Very friendly staff on a crowded day. My mum: "you have to rate this 5/5, we're going here again!"

My favorite West LA spot!

Shamshiri Grill is incredible. They have a separate vegan menu and everything on it is fresh and delicious. Lots of interesting flavor combinations that you won’t find anywhere besides Persian restaurants, and very difficult to find vegan. My favorite is the pomegranate walnut stew.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, High quality food, Great flavors

Cons: Often crowded

A Vegan Feast

To order a whole dish per person at Shamshiri Grill is wasteful. The portions are ginormous, and served with a side of rice as big as a birthday cake! Three dishes and two appetizers easily filed up my family of five, plus sent each of us home with a doggie bag. The vegan menu is extensive, so we stuck entirely to vegan options, satisfying the vegs and omnivors alike.

The tables are filled with baskets of white and wheat flatbread and dishes of radishes, red onion and sprigs of mint.

FALAFELS ($6.95) - Not exactly crisp, not exactly flavorful. I don't particularly recommend them.

BABA GANOUSH ($6.95) - House made smokey roasted eggplant blended (but not pureed) with tahini, lemon juice, garlic and olive oil. The pulpy string of eggplant and a scattering of pine nuts make this a must order starter.

VEGAN ADAS POLO ($10.95) - A massive mound of basmati rice with whole lentils, sautéed onions, raisins, intact dates and currents with an equally massive crescent of scorched vegetables. The blistered vegetables include white onion, broccoli, zuchini, mushrooms, carrots and so on. On it's own, this dish feels incomplete; but it acts perfectly as a side to any of the stews.

VEGAN KARAFS ($10.95) - Huge slices of celery stewed in watery blend of unnamed green herbs. Served in a deep gratin dish, this was the only plate still filled with some food after we packed our leftovers.

VEGAN FESENJAN ($10.95) - BEST DISH OF THE MEAL!!! MUST MUST ORDER!! The simple menu description as a "Sweet-n-tart" walnut puree in pomegranate juice and pomegranate molasses don't do this justice. It's a plain looking, mono-textured dish--most likely meant as a saucy base for meats--but the complex flavors are easily celebrated on their own. With a mouthful of rice and a a few morsels of vegetables from the Adas Polo, this is a must must try dish.

In addition to all this, the last three dishes come with a green salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and other predicable veggies) or tabouli (more parsley then grain) AND hummus AND tahini AND rice. Wolf! Bring lots of friends and prepare to share!

Pros: Huge portions, Full vegan menu

Cons: Noisy dining room, Open view of grill
