The big plus of Selam Helal: It's set up like a big, blinking walk-in and get food 'VEGAN' sign. And it's one of the best places for getting vegan fast food-like food in Düsseldorf. Everything tastes very delicious, especially their vegan replacement for meat. And if you're looking for a decent vegan pizza, there's hardly a way around that restaurant. BUT... oh, boy...
Read moreIt's not a vegan restaurant. It offers a big selection of vegan meals, but just as much also non-vegan meals, as the spinning metal stick pieced full with parts of murdered subjects makes obvious.
It's just a fast food snack place; if you're looking for a restaurant experience from food to atmosphere, this place is not for you. The personal is rather unknowledgeable about vegan food; to that extend that you can't trust the meal called 'vegan doner' to be a doner, which is really vegan: Once I was there and asked if the bread used for that meal is also vegan, they were laughing and joking about that notion as if there's no possibility that the bread could be problematic for vegans, but wikipedia says, that bread used for conventional doner could contain animal milk or butter; so, the question is justified, and if the people operating that place aren't aware of it, how can you trust them that they have picked vegan bread for the doner? Half of the personal is unfriendly. The vegan pizza, although being part of the general menu, is not available on the full open hours, but only in the afternoon; so, if you go there by noon or earlier, and try to order a vegan pizza, the personal will tell you, to come back in the afternoon with that wish. The prices are average; it used to be very cheap, but obviously they've exaggerated with adjustments to COVID19 and inflation.
If I want a vegan doner, I go to Antalya Döner right around the corner, closer to the Düsseldorf main railroad station.

Döner mit veganem Kebab, 3 verschiedene Soßen (Joghurt, Cocktail, scharfe Soße), leider relativ wenig befüllt. Geschmacklich in Ordnung.

Upon arriving in Düsseldorf for the first time, a friend brought my to this place, literally next door to the station. Pretty convenient.
Read moreHe ordered a doner kebab sandwich for me. It was pleasant to eat, but I was not impressed. Basically, I won't go out for something like this again, whereas I would go out of my way for a good falafel sandwich. I'm sure there are plenty of tastier doner kebab sandwiches or there for me to try, so maybe I'll change my mind in the future.

Lahmacun is delicious and does not differ much from the meat version in terms of taste and texture. Döner is also not bad, but a bit expensive for its size.

So glad this place was on Happy Cow, we really enjoyed it! The person working the counter was very knowledgeable about what is and is not vegan. We both had a doner and it was phenomenal... Probably the best vegan doner I have ever had. Heads up, though- They only accept cash here, but there is an ATM just outside if you need to get some euro. Highly recommend it, if you're veg*n in Dusseldorf, don't miss this!

As I was exploring the city I happened to have stumbled upon this shawarma shop. Love how well they advertise vegan as well on their exterior - very eye catching! After trying to make a decision due to the nice amount of vegan options they offer I settled with the shawarma sandwich. It was pretty tasty! Loaded with veg and seitan, it was a mouth full. Like the fact that they also have vegan sauces to and more than just one. If your looking for a quick bite and haven’t been able to find a vegan donair in a while, pop on it to this place. Prices were also decent.

Yes, another review to confirm what the other reviewers have written - it's well worth the visit. It's amongst the closest I've found to a Berlin-style doener outside of Berlin. Excellent seitan-based doener, with a range of vegan sauces. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I'll be back there again - tonight.

I was surprised how many vegan options are offered here! Dürüm, doner kebab (bag), plate, different kinds of pizza, falafel, soup etc. all available in a vegan version. For the Schawarma they use seitan by Makam, which is super delicious! My today's chose was the Schawarma plate with rice and salad and I was not disappointed. Super tasty and reasonable prices - definitely recommendable! The interior is a funny mixture, because there was apparently an Asia snack in here before.

I had the seitan Döner. It was awesome with some vegan sauces too. They have vegan pizza and shawarma as well as some rice and stir fried vegetables curry type dishes. They have Turkish coffee and some desserts too but don't think the desserts are vegan. Very friendly staff and many vegan options at affordable prices. Highly recommended.
