Menu del dia saved my day - Edit
I arrived early on a 'cold', foggy morning in Lima. By the time this restaurant opened I was already hangry and very chilly so all I was craving was a hot soup which was very hard to find elsewhere since it always contains meat. I was absolutely happy when I heard the menu del dia comes with soup and a main dish. Even happier was I when I saw the soup was a huge portion. For the main dish I could decide between tofu with rice or faux meat balls and rice. The tofu came with a sweet sour sauce which wasn't my favourite but apart from that the food was decent and so filling. It cost 17 soles and had tea included.

Meh at best - Edit
I tried this place despite some concerning reviews, probably should have listened. The daily menu wasn't vegan and the waitress wasn't super aware of how to make it vegan. When my food came out there was an egg on the plate so I had to send it back. The food was flavorless and weird. Cheap though. I wish it was better.

Good food here - Edit
Quick service and good food. You usually have 2-3 choices for the appetizer, and 2 choices for the main plate. The only thing I don't like is that the food can get repetitive here if you go often (the same rice, the same sauces, etc), and when they bring you the food, the presentation can be fairly monochromatic. If the main dining room is full, there's another one in the back. The location is good, being in the Miraflores neighborhood where most tourists go. If you are a foreigner, they will give you the printed menu, which you can order from, but the best deal is the meal of the day. The meal of the day also comes with a glass of plain yogurt to which you can add some of the cane syrup (these are bottles of dark syrup that are on the tables). This is currently the best deal for a vegetarian meal in Miraflores. The meal of the day is currently 16.5 soles (April 2024). To get a table quickly you should arrive before 1:00 p.m. or after 1:45 p.m. They have free Wi-Fi.

Real Peruvian Food - Edit
This is my favorite place in Lima. They serve very authentic Peruvian food, just without meat. I went with two Peruvians and they both loved the food. My wife claims this is the best vegan lomo saltado she has ever had. My non vegetarian father-in-law has been craving the sopa criolla (not vegan) for two days. He asked me today if we can go back tomorrow. LOL.
Read more2024 Update: Still my favorite place in Lima. 6 of us had full meals, with a pitcher of jugo de maracuyá, and two ceviche de champiñónes to share, and walked out for less than $50. I love this place.😄#Veganuary

Sayel is a small family-owned restaurant that offers a daily menu (soup or salad, a main, a small dessert, and a herbal tea) as well as a la carte options on its carta.
Read moreThe quinoa soup was a light warm and savory refresher and the tofu asparagus brought me back to the delicious egg foo youngs I haven’t eaten in 20 years. The lobo saltado had a bit too much soy sauce and onions for my taste (but that’s the dish).
The menu items came out within minutes and cost around $5US.

Very good - Edit
Authentic food, decent price, nice staff. I ordered the plate of the day and told them I was vegan so they simply swapped out the yogurt dessert and gave me extra fruit. 13 soles and includes soup or salad, main, drink and dessert.

Very average - Edit
I went for lunch. As a tourist I was given an English menu that didn't contain the bargain set menu and I wasn't told about it. Instead I ordered breaded and fried seitan and fries with a salad garnish. The seitan was crispy but tasted of nothing and had a soft texture. The side salad had been washed and there was a pool of water on my plate which my other food was placed. The fries were good. I was really disappointed overall.

Love this place!! - Edit
This place has delicious meals and offer a lunch menu for only 13 soles (as of June 2019). Service is fast and the portions were generous and it was very tasty! I went back every lunch that I could. When I went you could pay with card. Highly recommended.

Lots of Food on the Cheap - Edit
I went on a weekday at noon. The place was probably 60% full and by 1pm was completely full. For 13 soles you get a tea drink, yogurt, and two courses. Food itself was good enough. More psyched about the quantity and price.

Eat fast and don't expect a drink - Edit
We walked past this place twice before we noticed it, due to very subtle signage. It was supposed to close at 8:00 and we arrived around 6:00, initially to be told the cook had left so we couldn't eat. Then we were told to sit down and order something quick to make (soup and an omelette, apparently). When we asked if we could order drinks we were told "no" because nothing was prepared. We weren't even offered water! The food was fine and there was a menu in English. It looked like the set menu was quite good but we didn't really have time to look at it. There was only one other person in the restaurant (on a Friday evening) so maybe that was why they were shutting early. It was all a bit strange!

Cheap and good! - Edit
I have been two times at El Vegetariano and I really appreciated. I took the menu (S/.11, but 12 on Saturday) with starter, main course, dessert, drink and yogurt. The service is quick, the food good and the portions aren't small. It is also possible to ask for a 'doggy-bag' for the yogurt, dessert and drink if you prefer to.
Read moreI like the atmosphere and the quality of food, even if it is not really refined o surprising. I've heard that the founders of El Vegetariano used to work at Bircher Benner before, so basically you get the same food but cheaper. In fact, it is possible to buy Bircher Benner products as well in the restaurant.
Pros: Cheap, Excellent price-quality ratio, Nice staff

Great value for money, especially in Miraflores. The lunch menu is now 11 soles and includes starter, main dish, drink, yogurt and small dessert. You usually have 2 options to choose from, I especially like the raw salad + dressing. Lots of locals here and the waitresses are nice!

"El vegetariano" was the first place I went in Peru to eat and the outcome could not be greater.

Pros: delicious, inexpensive, great staff
