We had a very nice meal

This place is a blessing as it is the only restaurant with veg food at Kata beach. We tried the chicken nuggets, fried thin noodles in soy sauce and the 'pork' mix which looked different in the picture from the menu but was so delicious! Water is free and the staff is lovely and friendly. We will definitely come back here! Oh and the place is supercool as they have fans and aircon!

Pros: Delicious, Great staff, Aircon

Best vegan options in Kata and Karon

A little Jay restaurant with a big menu. Crispy mock pork, mock chicken and other meats that are all better than the ones I'd had a home coupled with an amazing mushroom curry and cheap prices. Amazing

Great little vegan place

Really enjoyed a quiet meal here, staff where lovely and very proud of their food which was nice to see. Place was clean, cheep and tasty, can’t ask for more than that. Note, they have recently changed location, look for the big round ‘jay’ sign.

Pros: Clean, cheep and tasty, Lovely staff, Fully vegan (maybe eggs... saw them on the menu)

Went for a walk in the pouring rain trying to find this restaurant only to find it is closed. They are either under renovations (signs are down but are on the floor inside) or shut down for good. The workers taking things down inside couldn’t give us much information as they couldn’t speak much English.

The best vegan option in kata ! Lots to choose from. Both vegan and veg. Cheap and decent portions. The staff are lovely. The restaurant is chilled and quiet.

A little disappointing

Given its great reviews, I had high hopes. However, we did leave a bit disappointed. When we first arrived there was nobody in the restaurant so we stood waiting to be seated. When we were approached the lady looked angry and confused - we just wanted to eat? Half of the items we tried to order were unavailable. Though the food we did manage to order did taste good and was very inexpensive, our entire meal was 240 baht!

Pros: Tasty food, Excellent value

Cons: A lot of menu items unavailable, Quite loud due to traffic noise

LOVE IT!

This place saved us during out stay in Kata Beach. The food is home made and delicious.
The portions were big and they also do take way (everything well packed).
The owner is very sweet and accommodated our huge order (we were very hungry) even though we got there only half an hour before their closing time.
I recommend their Tempura (I haven't eaten one of those since became vegan) and the "pork" with Kale.
Delicious :)
And indeed, we have asked and they confirmed that they don't use any eggs / milk in their recipes.

Pros: Home Made, Value for Money, Lots of options in the menu

Cons: none

Good jay restaurant

Me and my mum cake here after going to the big Buddha cause it is just a the bottom of the hill in Kata town. It was a very clean place, a real Thai eating experience. I had the tom yum soup with pineapple ice and my mum had green curry with normal rice. I really enjoyed my rice and tom yum soup, though it was quite spicy. My mum was turned off by the tofu in the curry that the exotic veg in it. But she said the sauce was delicious. A definite must go place if you want to enjoy the authentic Thai food experience.

Pros: Clean , Food made fresh , Authentic Thai food

Cons: Not much information on menus

Great Jay Restaurant with Menu in Kata

For a general description of what Jay restaurants in Thailand are all about, visit my review of the food booth in Central Festival Market.

Sai Than Boon is fantastic. It's real homemade vegan Thai food priced the way Thai food should be.

Yes, the restaurant itself is on a very busy road making dining noisy, and if it is your first time in a Jay restaurant, it could be intimidating...but unlike other Jay restaurants that serve pre-made food, Sai Than Boon cooks to order ensuring your food is hot (very reassuring when you are trying to avoid food poisoning!).

The portions were a good size and two of us left stuffed after ordering 4 dishes. We both ate, with drinks, for under $10.

I'm giving Sai Than Boon 5 stars based on a comparison to similar Jay style restaurants in Phuket and based on a combination of food quality, food safety, price, and being a fully vegan restaurant. The biggest letdown was location, but you can always get take away if it bothers you that much. :)

Vegan in Kata

Yes it is on a busy road, but it also happens to be the only 'jay' eatery in town. The women who run the restaurant (whose sister store lives near Patong Beach) are lovely, and appear to worship Quan Yin/Guan Im/Guan Am (depending on whether you're Chinese, Thai or Vietnamese).

Pros: veg*n , inexpensive, lovely service

Cons: some dishes can be a little average

Super food, horrible location

This was the only vegan place near our accommodation and luckily it was very near. Still it took a lot of time and courage to get there because it's on the busiest street around and the required road crossing is really playing with your life. The palce is a very humble looking buddhist restaurant which is fine but the location is so bad, I had to wear earplugs while there because the noise from the steet was deafening. On the upside the food itself is GREAT and super super cheap. We even took one meal as take away to eat later cause it was excellent. So was the staff. Still, I would only visit it if truly necessary because it is very unpleasant to be at.

Pros: Super food, Super cheap, Super staff

Cons: Bad location, Busy street, Very very loud

Loved it - Best Place near Kata Beach

Ate there twice and wish we ate there more! Everything on the menu is vegan, anything that says "duck" or "pork" is just the dish name and you will be served "mock meat" which I didn't personally like. Portion sizes aren't very large (for the price compared to Chiang Mai for example) but they are so cheap and taste great. I'd rather pay for 2 portions then go anywhere else and pay absurd amounts and not even guarantee it's vegan. Staff is great especially when I asked to see the mock meat packaging for gluten intolerance she did not hesitate to help me out.

Sai than Boon overall is a great restaurant although it does not have the restaurant/dining experience. The place is small maybe 5-6 families, plastic table cloths, self serve water.

Definitely worth your time and money overall! I'd rather be there than at the restaurants on the strip with hanging swordfish and manta rays...

Pros: Good prices, Vegan , Friendly owner and waiter

Cons: not really a restaurant/dining experience, no wifi

more than amazing

This place was truly amazing. I never bother to write reviews, but decided to do that because the food was truly delicious, very cheap and the owner was really nice so I also wanted to support her. Tomorrow is my last day in Phuket and I want to eat there again before I leave.

Great Price

Ate here for lunch, most menu items are between 60-80 baht so very reasonably priced. Cheapest meal I was able to find around Kata beach area. Food is of good quality, mostly Thai dishes with some mock meat. Would definitely recommend!

Pros: Very inexpensive , Tasty

Cons: A bit too much mock meat in some dishes

Go. Now. Right now!

This was the best green curry I've had in my entire life. I would come back to Thailand just to eat here. It's on a busy road a little out of the way but if you don't try this place you're crazy in the coconut. Six stars out of five.

Pros: Totally vegan , Cheap, So many options you can come back over and over

Cons: Busy road

cheap and cheerful

I dragged my mother here whilst on holiday, sick of piecing together meals from the tourist restaurants by the beach and it did not disappoint.

The food was delicious and freshly cooked and super cheap. We left a generous tip as well felt it was worth a lot more than we were charged.

Pros: extensive menu, freshly prepared food

Cons: difficult to find
