They do care about vegans and kept that on the menu!!!

It is a sweet moment when a creative person takes a pivot and it works out for them. I've read and heard a lot about the owners decisions. Shine a light people that our options are growing, not diminishing!!! For most of you, please take the time to check out "The Tofu Tollbook." That little paperback listed all our options including health food stores. It was a time before Whole Foods, and it was a challenge to travel.

For the food, we had meat eaters at the table and I barely noticed. For our 2 dishes we ordered al seasonal curry was a yellow thai curry. It had so many good vegetables, and we added tofu. The other dish was a grain free bowl. It had great flavors that really danced in my mouth, from the kale to the pickled vegetables and the lentils at the bottom, it was delicious. Oh yea, the appetizer was fried it was a great choice. If felt reinvented and really good, real nutritional food. They even have 2 kitchens which is remarkable. It was the type of food I eat on a daily basis, but elevated and well thought out. I just know how hard it is to see all the restaurants closing, especially vegan ones, and that is not good. Anyone who is interested in whole foods veganism, check this place out.

For the ambiance, eating out on the sidewalk on Sunset Blvd. on a Saturday, that was priceless. PS wait staff could be a bit more attentive. No service until after we ate. I went in and asked for the check.

Greedy cowards

This used to be a go-to spot for us. They deserve all the hate they are getting and more. They decided they were willing to sell dead animals in order to make more money. Betrayed all the vegans that supported them but more importantly betrayed all the dead animals on their plates. They suck.

Wonderful Vibe including outdoor seating

Chef Molly has done an amazing job running restaurants and creating delicious food. Though with government over reach raising the minimum wage and outrageous inflation it becomes impossible to stay in business. With a smart business sense Molly has added non vegan items. It will help this restaurant make it inclusive inviting non Veg people. Noting they may be eager to experiment in some of the vegan options. While some activists whine at anything that isn't vegan. They miss the opportunity to be inclusive.
Thank you Molly for keeping the doors open. Glad you aren't one of the 47 vegan restaurants that closed over the last four years.
Still great vibe indoor/ outdoor seating. Food is delicious and the place was packed Saturday night(August 2024)

Was okay, but now terrible!

The food was okay before (terrible service though), but I will never go there again. I understand that times are hard for restaurants, but all of the bs that the owner spewed out was such a slap in the face to the vegan community. Shame.

Don’t support Chef Mollie

The owner of this restaurant (a rich white nepo baby) capitalized on the vegan community to build a following then trashed veganism and said eating meat is better for the planet, your body, AND for the animals… on earth day. She is a clown and doesn’t deserve support.

Not vegan anymore

It’s sad that this place isn’t vegan anymore. This was one of my favorite restaurants until I learned they are no longer 100% vegan. The reason for this also doesn’t make any sense.

Sell Outs

This once fully vegan restaurant will now be serving “regenerative” meat. Don’t support this business or their sell-out owner.

Plant based breakfast options

Update: 2024
This establishment now values death and animal exploitation for profit. The owner announced on Earth day that they will now offer deceased animals and their by products from their “regenerative farm.” There’s nothing regenerative about a farm that relies on the cycle of death and betrayal of innocent sentient beings.

Past review:
The chilaquiles was prepared well with a decent amount of tofu scramble unlike some other plant based cafes I’ve visited that get real stingy with it. Sage does breakfast properly here and the dish is full of savory flavors. It’s really a heavy dish so splitting it would be the way to go, or if you have a big appetite give it a try. The coffee and latte was really on point and satisfied our caffeine cravings.

Used to be the best

Editing down to one start as they now serve meat….. the “regenerative” label is going to confuse people into thinking it’s lab-grown meat but it’s not, it’s murdered cows grazing and pooping on “regenerative” soil. Not sure why you can’t improve farmland with sanctuary cows and why these people think they need to be killed and eaten.

Original review: Extensive vegan menu, amazing vibe. I can forgive them the 1% non-vegan items with honey. I loved the broccoli mac and cheese pizza and my friend ate up the miso bowl. Looking forward to coming back!

We enjoyed the food here very much! We both had salads and they were plentiful and delicious. We also tried the fried artichoke hearts, yum!
I could eat without concern for cross containments and there's desserts!! How often can you pick any of the ice creams without worry?!

Quality suffers

Update: menu was improving, location is fantastic, unfortunately now they serve meat.

I’m vegan but if I want something that’s not pizza or fried/heavy appetizers I’m always disappointed. The dish quality is just not as good as Real Food Daily. It’s not the ingredients (which I’m sure are high quality and fresh), as much as the recipes themselves and how they’re cobbled together. It’s quite expensive too. The pizzas are good though (although you can find better vegan cheese elsewhere), and I haven’t had their brunch food, so I’ll try that at some point.

I recently had the Bahn Mi sandwich and that was quite disappointing. Tofu not good, the sauce not good, the baguette was soggy. The flavor was not good. The butternut squash ravioli felt super greasy and the ravioli don’t go at all with the weird kale lemon thing. The bowls are a mish mash of stuff—there was one that was pretty good though, but I can’t remember which. I remember their nachos being very good, but I don’t want to be ordering 1000 calories every time.

Big portions. It’s the sort of place I would take a non-vegan to, their ambience is nice, but recently I’ve been disappointed, so I will wait. The menu is large and varied, but it’s a bunch of fusion dishes that don’t really work and always leave me feeling ugh.

No longer vegan not even the same menu. All that good food gone. This was my go to place every birthday every celebration. I’m very disappointed at the very least englehart could have played both side opening a new restaurant to fill her new ventures but to leave us behind is [censored]

Thanks engleharts for your efforts to keep the people supporting you all this time high and dry.

(Was) Amazing

2024 update: due to the restaurants new direction, can’t support them anymore. I would have had more respect for them if they just admitted they were struggling financially so they decided to change the menu, but the whole regenerative ag thing is BS, and the owner’s attitude towards the backlash has been unprofessional.

Original review: Great food and such a cute atmosphere. Went for brunch and can’t wait to try the dinner menu! Please be aware they do have a few items that contain honey- they are well marked, as are gluten free, soy free, and nut free items.

BOO

UPDATE
Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, they are no longer Vegan. What a heartbreaking choice. Boo. Never coming back.

Lots and lots of options! Pizza, tacos, bowls, sandwiches, wraps, pasta, salads, etc. I tried the street tacos (carnitas seasoning jackfruit) and the butternut squash ravioli and they were so good! Lots of flavor and great seasonings. Can’t wait to come back and try some of the other tempting dishes!

Sellout

Mollie the owner should be ashamed. If you needed to expand your menu with dead animals to attract more customers, then be honest and say that up front. No need to spout a bunch of "regenerative farming" bs to try and justify killing animals. The truth is you, and your family who also own cafe gratitude and gracias madre, are in it to make a buck. THAT'S your priority. And according to you and your family, if that means the torture and killing of animals, then so be it apparently. Disgusting. No heart, no integrity, no morals. Take the "kind" out of your name.

Nope.

I have only eaten at this place one time, and that was one time too many. The service was horrible and the place was totally dead. How do you have such poor service when there are less than 10 people in the whole place? The pizza was just meh, it didn't have much flavor and was nothing special, I could make something better at home with more flavor. While I did like the ice cream, the coffee was vile, and the donut was horrible. While I remember that I liked the ice cream, it was not good enough that I remember what flavor I had. Save your money, It was way too expensive to be such lackluster food and service. I won't be back to this place, the food was not good and now that they are no longer vegan, there is absolutely nothing special about them.

Cons: Food is not good, no flavor, Parking sucks, Overall service was terrible

EDIT - NO LONGER VEGAN! SERVES MEAT!

Sage has made the choice to serve meat and cheese. I will no longer give my money to corporate shills that sell out to make more money.

Such a shame. This place used to be awesome, but my last visit was an utter disappointment.
We ordered the cauliflower wings, which were AMAZING, but I suspect they forgot about our mains and left them under the heat lamp. 30 Mims later we had to ask where our food was, and it arrived soggy and cold. The burritos were DRIPPING wet (I guess the beans and jackfruit were not drained) and the fries were overcooked, cold and soggy. Couldn't even eat our mains.
