Try the grilled veggie crepe from the crepe bar located front left of the market! You might go back for seconds! We also tried the falafel wrap from the kebab place but wouldn’t recommend it, falafel was extremely salty and the bread was very oily. Check out the Asian vendor located towards the back left of the market and try their banana sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves, yummy! There is a juice bar but we didn’t get around to trying it. Bring cash as most vendors there accept cash only!
A few vegan food options, good fresh produce - Edit
A number of options for light meals/snacks.
We are from: OMG donuts which are also gluten-free, a stall at the back of the markets selling delicious sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves, a crepe place near the front left side with a few vegan options, fresh sugarcane juice also front left side (try the one with ginger and lime), an artisan bakery stall near front right side (all vegan I think), also a few coffee stalls (recommend the one at left front).
Loads of fresh fruit and vegetables, lots of Asian veggies. I did expect more unusual tropical fruits such as mangosteens, rambutan, etc.
They open Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 5am. There are several different fruit and vegetable stalls. Many of the fruit stalls offer you samples to try. The fruits of the same specie often taste different to the stuff in supermarkets which has say around for a while. There are several fruits you will not usually see stocked at supermarkets. Bring cash as most stalls do not take card.
Good place to stock up on fruit and veg if you’re planning to be in Cairns for a few days. Very reasonably priced and you can grab an even better bargain before they close.
Rusty's has a great range of fruit and veggies, there were even a few exotic fruits I hadn't seen before. All the produce was so fresh and with so many stalls the prices are really good, we even managed to pick up a mango for $1. Will visit again for sure if we're ever back this way.
