High quality tofu and sorbet

There was only one vegan entree, but it had complex flavors and very high quality grilled tofu (perhaps made in house?). Dish included corn and potato. The pineapple sorbet was out-of-this-world yummy. Ordered the Brussels sprouts with sausage on the side for the omnivores in our group - they were accommodating and didn’t make a big deal about it (always appreciated).

Pros: High quality food. , Excellent server , Beautiful ocean view

Cons: Expensive , Limited vegan options

Not a good option

Two stars b/c they do have a clearly labeled vegan entree, but none of the other options mentioned in earlier reviews, and they didn’t seem very interested in offering any additional suggestions. Extremely overpriced - the entree portion sizes were tiny. The tofu dish in my picture was $33 and a side of white rice the size of a plum was $6.

Vegan with an ocean view

Unexpected gem on our vacation, vegan fine dining with 180 degree views of the ocean. We enjoyed the earlier, pre-sunset seating so that we could be mesmerized by the Poipu Beach waves. If you are seated at 7 pm or later, you’ll miss the scenery, so it’s worth booking a table at 5:30 pm even if you aren’t a senior citizen. Rum Fire is located at the Sheraton Poipu Beach Resort and only open a few days a week.

Why we liked it: menu clearly labels the vegan options and kitchen delivered. There are vegan starters (the gazpacho is recommended) plus THREE vegan entrees. That’s pretty amazing at a non-veg fine dining establishment, especially at a chain hotel resort. We enjoyed the Beyond Meatballs and fried rice dish to the point we were planning to recreate it at home; this is the type of dish that omnivores would find satiating. And I was talking about how I could make the farro risotto — nothing I’ve made before, but tasty enough to make me think about wanting to eat it again even before I finished the dish. Portions are generous.

Rum Fire did have a vegan dessert. We skipped the dessert because we were stuffed and because sorbet was not tempting enough to make me my bust my buttons when it’s available everywhere on the islands. I’m hopeful that Rum Fire will add more dairy and egg free desserts for the future, since the chef has the skill set to cook for omnivores and vegans alike.
