Must have in Ponta Delgada! - Edit
The service was super friendly, the dishes are presented in a very aesthetic manner and they're tasty as well! The prices are on the high end.

Great food and friendly and attentive staff - Edit
We came in for lunch when it opened and were greeted friendly and got a table right away. They asked if we wanted the vegan options and if there are dieaterian restrictions they should consider when explaining the menu. The tea of the day is unlimited and included in the lunch menu. The food was great, and the apple crumble a delight.

We loved it ! - Edit
We went there twice for lunch : friendly staff and delicious food, we loved it ! The lunch menu is so worth it, for 12€ you have the soup of the day a mix of two of the main plates rice or salad or a bit of both homemade fresh tea (glasses filled very regularly). Also tasted their banoffee pie, that I highly recommend !

Little gem worth a visit - Edit
Friendly knowledgeable staff with great options for vegans. Lunch deal menu was a good deal. We happened to arrive just as they opened for lunch, which was lucky as they filled up pretty much as fast as they could seat people.

Amazing! - Edit
Sweet small vegetarian restaurant! Really good! We had a plate with a mix of some main dishes. The soup (no picture) was really good as well! There was free tea all the time and lovely service!

Favourite place in the island - Edit
It’s a small place, maybe 7 tables. Good atmosphere and tasty food. Very friendly staff. For lunch, they offer menu for 12 euros per person. It includes soup, 2 different main dishes of your choice (smaller portions), salad and homemade ice tea. From main dishes we tried everything except for seitan burger. My favourit was the chickpeas dish and my husband liked the cauliflower. For dessert, we went for the banana banoffe pie, which was very good.

Wished it was better - Edit
We had high hopes for this place but the vegan options fell flat. We had a sushi hand roll and mushroom scallops for an appetizer. The hand roll was delicious with teriyaki jackfruit. The scallops were 5 small rounds of mushroom in a couple of sauces that were mediocre. I had the pea "hamburger" and polenta fries. The "hamburger"had not bun and was in the middle of the plate on top of 6 or so polenta fries with salad all around it. My wife had the lentil stew which was not great it came with rice and some deep fried tofu as well as a strange lightly breaded "blooming" onion. We had two desserts neither of which were great. Kind of disappointed overall. The vegan dishes seemed like vegetarian dishes just without the cheese.

Great experience - Edit
Book in advance! If you want to eat there you need to book a table as it is incredibly busy. We went there for dinner and decided to have 3 starters, share a main dish and share a dessert (2 people). My favorites were the jaca tamaki (starter) and the bannoffee (dessert) - so delicious!- , and everything else was very well prepared and good as well. The staff is super friendly and the space is cosy. I would definitely go there again.

Vegan must-have on São Miguel - Edit
From all vegan options we tested during our stay at São Miguel, Rotas was by far the best option.
Read moreEvery meal is clearly marked as vegan or vegetarian. About 85% of the menu is vegan, with really great options. The staff is super friendly and nice, and of course the food is extraordinarily delicious.
The only sad thing is the limited variety of vegan desserts.
I would everyone recommend to visit Rotas at least once.
Pros: Food, clearly marked as vegan, Staff, Location feels like a living room
Cons: Less vegan dessert-options

We went to Rotas three times in a week and would happily have gone more. The food looks beautiful and tastes amazing. But what makes this restaurant is the staff so warm and welcoming. I tried a few things, and all were great. The Caeser Salad and Banofee pie were highlights but everything was really good. You need to book for evenings as it's small and popular.
