Besonderer Spot

I just love it!

My favorite place near university, cosy and so super cheap for the gigantic portions you get. Almost everything is vegan and really healthy stuff that is perfectly seasoned. Don’t expect anything fancy!

Best place close to university

This little store and bistro is one of my favourite vegan go to places in Vienna. It's located close to university so there are always many students inside and they have good and inexpensive options for students as well. They have great vegan casseroles and cakes.
The food tastes very homemade and organic and the atmosphere is cozy.

Pros: great quality of food , many vegan options, not too expensive for the quality very friendly s

Cons: always crowded , not suitable for bigger groups

Cereal based casseroles as specialty

Cozy spot to eat something light and filling. The specialty here is named Auflauf: a variety of cereal based baked dishes, traditionally lacto-ovo, but there're always vegan variations, just ask, it's worth it. Staff is friendly and reliable. There are no tables but seats at the counter in front of the familiar kitchen, atmosphere is relaxed.
Being there I got convinced it was merely vegetarian, as confirmed by reviews below. Now that I read their website I see they also serve meat and fish. HappyCow members, please send direct news from Vienna.

very vegan-friendly!

I regularly go there between university classes (it's very close to Vienna University). They offer special "student plates" which are of great value: for €5,50 you get a huge piece of a vegetarian or vegan casserole of your choice with a decent ladle of sauce of your choice and three salads (also of your choice). They also have daily changing lunch menus. Considering the big portions, the regular prices can be considered cheap too.

The salad buffet includes more than 10 different fresh salads, most of them are vegan and all I've tried so far were very tasty. Recently, they started selling a variety of vegan cakes too. The staff is super friendly. Unfortunately, there is only a very small seating area but you can take away all of the food too.

Pros: healthy, tasty, diversified food, huge portions, great value, very friendly staff

Cons: very limited seating

Healthy traditional wholefood veggie lunch bar

Within a health food shop which is well-stocked, this lunch bar has friendly staff and several healthy filling vegan options.
You sit at a bar around the serving counter and it feels very friendly.
Using traditional veggie ingredients - lots of grains, lentils etc. - there are home-made style tray bakes, loaves, pies etc. that come with sauce and salads. The staff all knew which things were vegan.
The salad had quite a variety and was fresh-tasting. The mains were very filling and were a bit bland. You needed the sauce (grey-looking gravy that surprisingly tasked OK) and salad to liven up the meal.
They had some good flapjack based / tray-bake style desserts.
They also had a wide range of organic drinks, juices and teas etc.
In general we felt we had a wholesome vegan meal in a friendly place. The prices were reasonable too.
It was fine though I wouldn't make a massive effort to go there again. If you are looking for something special, go to Bio Bar instead.

Pros: Friendly, Vegan options, Healthy

Cons: No flavour explosion!, Out of city centre

lovely people

Found the service and the staff to be lovely. Just happened upon this shop/cafe upon chance. Checked out the dishes, looked pretty good with reasonable prices but selection was limited. I just had dessert. They had one vegan dessert, and one which contained egg (along with some cookies that I didn't inquire about). Went for the vegan dessert which was a bit dry, but at the same time well balanced with the flavors and enjoyable. Noticeably prepared with love and care, service was great with English being spoken comfortably inside.

Pros: good service, english spoken, plenty of vegan options

Cons: limited selections

Wholefood Snackbar

Some vegan food available. Basic but healthy food. Good portion size and good value for money. If you're passing and hungry, worth calling in. The 'cafe' is situated with a wholefood shop.

Pros: Tasty Food, Good Portion Size, Value for Money

Cons: Very Few Seats
