Wholesome loaves and sundry items - Edit
In addition to the standard wares of a health-food store (legumes and grains, nuts and their butters, dried fruits and seeds, teas and bottled juices, vitamins and nutritional supplements, et cetera), this shop sells spiralizers and single-serving blenders, as well as pillows filled with cherry pits and Provençal-print lavender sachets. Fresh fruits and vegetables are absent, but a wooden baker's rack holds a dozen different breads (see photo), which may be purchased by the whole or half loaf; another section is devoted to gluten-free foods and — in October — included Lebkuchen, a kind of gingerbread. The refrigerated case contains vegan cheeses, butters, and meat substitutes, as well as many flavors of tofu and moo-free yogurt. Cosmetics and toiletries fill an entire wall, and arranged around the aisles are woolen slippers and a selection of socks: bamboo for vegans, alpaca-blend for others.
