Sadly UNDERwhelmed .... - Edit
Prob #1
Read moreI requested the order to be ready for puckup @7:55 pm. I received a text @ 7:22 stating the order was ready! REALLY... so, now the order gets to "sit" for 30 minutes ....
Prob #2
I initially liked the idea of building a box in order to try a few different dishes. I choose a few veg options. The only one that tasted halfway decent was the chickpeas.
Prob #3
I selected chocolate chip cookies for dessert, but they weren't included in my order. I ended up with sweetened naan twists.
The ONLY element that I enjoyed were the samosas. I would give the samosas rated about 7/10.
Unless you want to duplicate my experience ...select a different restaurant.... IJS ..
Pros: Ahh .. yeah, but no
Cons: Inexpensive...but you get what you pay for

Meh - Edit
The food used to be good and there were a decent amount of vegan options. The price has been dropped but so has the quality. The naan used to be warm and fresh but now it’s always cold and stale. There are more vegan options now but they’re alright. They always switched to using disposable utensils which is disappointing

Terrible now - Edit
When i first tried rajas, it was a fairly decent buffet for the price. It had a nice selection of vegan items and they were tasty. However, a year later, the quality of the food dropped a little. It really depended on who was cooking that day if you wanted good food. Now, the quality is terrible. They dropped the price and the quality but increased the variety. The last hope for rajas was the naan bread that came fresh but now that is not even good anymore. I do not know what they did in the last two years but rajas is just awful. I wish the owners would go back to how it was a few years ago.

great food at low prices - Edit
Everything vegan is labeled and the staff know exactly what veganism is which is always great. The buffet is inexpensive and has plenty of vegan options. Customer service is the best I’ve experienced since the owner is so kind and always asking whether you are enjoying the food. Highly recommend!

Great vegan food - Edit
I love the buffet at Raja's. Everything is clearly labeled, and most of it's vegan. Vegan naan! Most of the dishes are the same. When I have gone, there's always been a lentil dish, veggies in coconut milk, a chickpea dish, and a spinach dish. They're all so good! I also like the battered fries (pakora style, but just potatoes).

Fast Filling Inexpensive Tasty - Edit
Raja's is an inexpensive, filling, healthy meal. They have a buffet that is 80% vegan, daily. $6.95 for all day/eve buffet. You can get in and out quickly, pay up front, self service with the friendliest owners!! (They also have booths at the Davis Farmers Market Saturday and Wednesday.) It is a block from campus on a street with no cars allowed, so you need to bike or park 2 blocks away (there are usually spaces on B Street). It is not a fine dining experience and is aimed at students, but many long time Davisites eat here as well and we like it, especially when in a hurry.

I'm a fan!! - Edit
This place is excellent - would give it 5 stars if we could give non-veg places 5 stars. For $7 (plus tax) you get access to a great buffet, with 4 different vegan curries (and rice, naan, salad, fruit). Everything that's vegan is clearly marked as such. This is going to be such a staple for my next few years in Davis!!

Best Value Treasure in Davis - Edit
Best vegan option I've found in Davis. Several vegan entree selections. I had the Aloo Gobi(cauliflower and potatoes) after talking to owner about no/low salt and oil options and they also made me a whole wheat chapati. Boyfriend had the mushroom masala (with no modifications) and some garlic naan. Both of us were VERY happy and I had some great leftovers to take home. Can't wait to come back for the buffet. They had several things I could eat and many things my non-vegan-no restrictions-boyfriend could eat for something like $6 each plus drinks for $1 or $2 dollars (mango lassi). Really appreciated the willingness of the owner to work with my no/low salt oil restriction. This place really tries to offer healthy food options and isn't above modifying their dishes to suit dietary preferences.
Read morePros: Gracious and Friendly Host, Many vegan options- great food/flavor, Food modifications no problem
Cons: slightly hard to find (worth looking)

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE - Edit
I go very often, sometimes three times or more a week. The buffet lunch is super cheap and all you can eat! So many vegan options and it's all labeled. The owners are super kind, he like loves seeing my friends and I stop by. Sometimes if one of us doesn't come he will ask about them. He is such a nice and joyful person. I wish I can give the place five stars because that's what it deserves. Their samosas and vegetable fritters with tamarind sauces are my absolute favorite. This is the only place I like to go eat out at. A lot of my friends agree that it's delicious :) I really love this place!

Raja's is awesome!! - Edit
FIRST OF ALL RAJA'S REALLY DESERVES 5 STARS BUT BECASUE IT'S NOT SPECIFICALLY A "VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT" I'M ONLY ALLOWED TO PUT 4!!!
Read moreWent to Raja's one Friday with a couple of my suitemates, and it was just perfect!!!Raja's is DELICIOUS (and cheap, which is a BONUS!!), they take Aggie cash for UCD students, and they are SUPER accommodating.
The owner (the person that's is the symbol on the restaurant's cards and posters) is just how the symbol looks!! He is one of the nicest people I've ever met, so kind and warm.
Extensive vegan and vegetarian options. I can't rave enough about this place. It also pleases non-vegans and vegetarians - my suitemates are omnivores and all of us keep raving about how we are going to go there every weekend! (Tip: Try the buffet. It's even cheaper than a meal.)
I WOULD GIVE RAJA'S 5 STARTS BUT BECAUSE IT'S NOT SPECIFICALLY A "VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT" HAPPY COW ONLY ALLOWS ME TO PUT 4
Pros: DELICIOUS, VEG-FRIENDLY, CHEAP

Tried & Liked, But Ask & Look For... - Edit
.. exactly what items are vegan before committing to the buffet. I tried the lunch buffet after reading the main entry for this restaurant, and going in and asking what on the buffet was vegan. Only three of the about 15 items were vegan, but as I was asking, the chef who ID'd the vegan selections very nicely offered to make me a fresh and vegan version of one of the dishes, and bring me the vegan version of the na'an bread.
Read moreI think that a great alternative is to look at the menu, which has an entire Vegan section, plus under the Combination Platters section has the Vegan Thali. I will go for that choice the next time I'm in Raja's.
BTW, the chef mentioned that he will also cook to order to accommodate those with dietary restrictions as outlined in the Jaine faith (sorry for any mispelling). Also he mentioned that when the Whole Earth Festival occurs at nearby UC Davis, the buffet goes more vegan.
Pros: Great taste when fresh, Knowledgeable, Accommodating
Cons: Few Vegan Buffet Selections, Upstairs
