All VEGAN

I ate here several times and always enjoyed the food. The soups are my favorite item. There are signs on posters saying vegetarian, but to my knowledge it's all vegan. I was staying in the San Juan neighborhood by La Basilica near Old Town and I would either walk (25-30min) or take a 2.25 cab ride there. Lunch was $4.75

Pros: Vegan, Nice staff

Cons: Only Spanish Speaking

One of the healthiest vegan options in Quito.

I've lived in Ecuador for several years now and have to say this is my preferred lunch or breakfast spot, simply because they offer nutritious and filling food for a good price. Other than some lightly fried foods, most of their dishes have very little added oil and use local, healthy ingredients. A full menu, which includes soup, a main dish, a small dessert, colada/juice, and tea, costs $4.70. This seems like a lot in Quito, but it's definitely worth it, especially considering the few healthy vegan and even vegetarian options around. There are also cheaper options if you don't want the whole menu ($3.50-$4).

The vibe inside is ok, a little too dark for my liking, but it's quiet and there's a well lit section with windows, which is nice.

Also interesting are their cooking classes and their brand fo products, which include healthy snacks, amaranth milk and more.

vegan food in quito

The only vegan restaurant in Quito.
Large range of choices but the food is not exceptional even if they propose original things with local ingredients.
The amaranth milk is very nice.

Pros: original, staff

Cons: nothing exceptional

Great food, organic ingredients, pleasant ambience

Quinua is a lovely place. They start with quality organic ingredients, and then prepare them with love and without anything artificial, and serve them as a balanced meal with a nice blend of pleasing flavors and textures.

I honestly don't understand the unsatisfied review below. Quniua's food isn't overly seasoned, and maybe that's why one person found it lacking in flavor, but since the ingredients they use are fresh, organic, and delicious, there's little need for seasoning.

The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff are gentle and sweet. I could happily eat here every day (and probably will while i'm in Quito).

There's a notice board in the back that describes the courses in the daily set menu, and also offers a few extras. You place your order at the counter and then pick up your tray when they serve it (though you can also just sit at a table they'll bring it to you).

Don't miss the pastries, desserts, and other items in the display case. They also have a few shelves of natural foods produced by an Ecuadorian women's cooperative.

Highly recommended.

Enjoy!

Pros: Tasty organic Ecuadorian cuisine, warm people and atmosphere, inexpensive

Tasty, healthy, inexpensive

We were served a pre-set lunch of: soup, greens (maybe collard greens), a potato/fake meat thing, rice, steamed veggies, jam, and a vegan ceviche (tomatoey/cilantro soup served cold; the non-veg version would contain seafood), and juice. They also had tea that you could serve yourself. All of it was good, and it was a lot of food for only $4.25/person.

Only vegan place in Quito?

As far as I know of, Quinua is the only 100% vegan place in central Quito. It is a friendly place, no fuss, nice colors on walls and lamps. Food was good, service friendly. I thought it was a little weird that the lunch didn't come with a juice, but instead tea. Oh well. I will absolutely be back soon!
