great vegan selection - Edit
Not a full vegan restaurant but they have a solid portion of their menu that is vegan, about fifty percent. This gives you lots of options as opposed to many other veg-option places. For the food, it was great, albeit a little pricey. I love their vegan tofu ricotta cheese!

appreciate the vegan menu options - Edit
I wanted to give this place 5 stars due to the fact they have a long list of vegan pizza options and sides. My order was buffalo cauliflower bites, vegan garlic knots and the Field of Dreams Pizza. My cauliflower bites were smothered in buffalo sauce yet they didn’t have any crunch, a little on the soggy side. Next I tried the vegan garlic knots; fair not as delicious as they sound, lastly the pizza. The field of dreams Pizza was delicious. I personally don’t prefer daiya cheese but it did the job, the pizza has field roast sausage, spinach, artichoke hearts, black olives, carmelized onions and balsamic glaze. The pizza has a lot of toppings, what caught my eye was the balsamic glaze which was not so apparent on the pizza. Overall, I didn’t leave hungry but longed for more flavor and less bleh. 4 stars because they are open late, very late 11pm in Los Angeles on East 1st. (Close to home) I will be back for more pizza and to [censored] the other sides. Oh! One more thing parking is very very limited. You may have to park on the side streets and the area is a little sketch. Great for large parties

Scored a vegan slice - Edit
thankfully they had vegan slices, not too expensive at all! if they didn't, a 12" with a few toppings would've run about 20 bucks. Staff was super friendly and laid back.

Great Place for Travelers - Edit
I frequently travel to downtown Los Angeles for business. Purgatory delivery saves me every time. They offer excellent vegan pizza, sandwiches and a few other things. I've used them half a dozen times and never disappointed.

Tasty Vegan Pizza - Edit
I had read about this place on happycow, and have eaten here twice. Was just here in July 2013, here's my Purgatory Pizza review.
Read moreIt's a kind of "in the middle of nowhere" place. It's not in the busy part of downtown LA but across the river to the east. There's not much else going on in this area except for the metro train stop across the street and some houses.
The place is simple with an old school restaurant feel. You order at the counter, and they make your pizza on the spot - takes 20-30 minutes.
Both times we ordered the vegan "Dave's Junkie Special": vegan cheese, spicy sauce, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, Fieldroast Italian sausage, mushroom. The first time we ate there, our pizza pie was piping hot, and I burnt the roof of my mouth. But it was yummy. The second time we ordered it to-go, but I managed to sneak bites while in the car. the second time around the pizza tasted okay though I thought I smelled meat scent. The kitchen likely uses the same prep area and utensils for making meat & vegan. The leftover, however, seemed to taste even better.
Call ahead to order so your pizza or calzone so will be ready when you get there.
Pros: vegan pizza, vegan calzone

I can't believe there are no reviews for here? - Edit
I've hit up Purgatory from time to time when I'm downtown late at night. Unfortunately they coat all their dough in gobs of oil so its impossible to go healthy here. They were one of the first places to take the vegan pizza mainstream.
