Good food, peaceful environment next to a temple, make sure you arrive on time! - Edit
Pun Pun Vegetarian Slow Restaurant, located next to a temple, serves a diverse menu of salads, noodles, soups, and curries. Their Banana Blossom Salad and Tom Yum Soup are particularly delicious. While some dishes contain eggs, their friendly staff are accommodating and can make adjustments.

Lovely peaceful place - Edit
This place is a very nice slow food spot. You sit next to a temple and monks will be walking all around. Also the people coming to pun pun are quiet and peaceful.
Read moreThe food was good! We had the curry with roti and the pink noodles, the tofu salad was one of the most flavorful dishes I've had. Pricing was also very decent.
There were way more options with honey and egg on the menu than I expected but everything was very clearly noted
Great outside seating

Tasty and very affordable lunch - Edit
I went here for lunch during a one day meditation retreat that was next door at the Monk Chat office, which I also recommend (http://www.monkchat.net/). Some dishes have egg but those are clearly labeled. I ordered a detox drink and got them to leave the honey out. Their English is good enough for understanding your order. The staff were friendly. While it took a while to get my food, the menu does state “slow food” so I was not expecting it to be any faster. I’ll post photos of the menu.

Finally tried this place - Edit
The last two times I wanted to go here I couldn't find it, if you take the main driveway then turn right after the temples to the parking lots, it will be at the last corner of the building.
Read moreNice place! The food and ambiance remind me of Mai Kaidee, but cheaper, more chilled and less elephant pants tourists (more of an expat and nomad crowd).
Pros: It's cheap, Good food, Large menu

Inexpensive and tasty vegan thai food - Edit
Some dishes contain egg but it is clearly stated and underlined. I had the Tom Yum soup which was really tasty but quite a hassle because I had to remove all the tough-textured spices (lemon grass etc, you don't want to eat those). The salad we ordered was very colourful.
Read moreThere was no air conditioning, only some fans, so it was quite hot inside.

Best in Thailand so far - Edit
This is a truly special place. We were complete blown away by the food.
Read moreLocated in the Wat Suan Dok; we had the nam hed song krueng (vegan version of spicy northern Thai fermented sausage), pad Thai, pak boong (crispy morning glory salad) and massamun curry. All were amazing and I would get all of these again. We will be going back at the end of this stay in Chiang Mai to eat there but also to attend an all day Thai Theravada Buddhist meditation retreat in the temple. A

Inexpensive for a quick bite - Edit
The restaurant is located behind the temple and it’s nice to see the monks walking about. The food was tasty and very inexpensive. Nice to come for lunch but not a very special experience. Seating is outside so yes, you may see a ‘furry friend’ or two... it’s to be expected.

Cheap, Clean, Delicious - Edit
One of my favorite restaurants in Chiang Mai! Many vegan options and almost all of the other things can be made vegan by requesting no egg (“mai sai kai”). Delicious and healthy veg versions of local eats! Lovely atmosphere on the temple grounds as well.

I’ve eaten here way too many times to count over the last few years and have never been sick once from their food. It’s a city, there’s rats... as a place without 4 walls there’s really nothing they can do. I appreciate that they’re clearly not putting out poison traps.

寺院里的素食餐厅 - Edit
坐在松得寺里面的素食餐厅吃饭的感觉会不一样,座位边上就是寺院墙,环境虽简单,饭菜味道还不错,有道菜在菜单里没有,去的早的话可以点,fermented mushroom sausage.

Lovely and tucked away - Edit
Make sure to order the off-menu fermented mushroom “sausage” dish. This was a lovely place for lunch after we attended a “monk chat” at the neighborhood temple within the complex. The restaurant is in the rear corner of the complex. The staff was wonderful as was their food. We had their Khao Soi, a fried mushroom dish, and the amazing mushroom sausage.

Reasonably priced - Edit
It’s reasonably priced for the quality of food you get :-) worth coming to if you do the one day meditation and Buddhism with the monks.

Good option if going to meditation retreat - Edit
If you are going to the one day meditation retreat at Wat Suan Dok then this is a really good option as it’s within the same compound just around the corner. The food was fine and reasonably priced, but I wouldn’t make a special trip out for it.

It was quite a way away from our hostel so we couldn't come back but if we were closer those mushroom sausages would of have been a daily staple

Came here for lunch after a walk around Princess Mother Health garden, CMU art centre, and the peaceful Wat Suan Dok (temple). Enjoyed a delicious 60THB sweet and sour dish with little mushrooms, veggies, and sweet juicy pineapple which tasted like morsels of gold. It came with red rice as well.

Didn't love it.... Saw a rat... - Edit
There are 2 Pun Pun, so don't get them confused. This one is by the temple and it's vegetarian. The kitchen didn't look so clean and the waitress spoke 0 English, and messed up our order, and brought us somebody else's order, even there were only 3 tables and we have explain that we are Jay (vegan), yet she brought us a Padthai covered in egg, when we didn't even order a padtai. The cups and plates were all chipped... And by the time we were finishing, we saw a RAT running from one side of the cafe to another, along the kitchen. Needless to say, we are not going back. They need to take their business a little more seriously, clean up the place, train their staff, and try to get rid of the rat problem.

One of my favourites in Chiang Mai - Edit
This restaurant is a little out the way but easy to find in the wat complex. Food is cooked fresh and is easily some of the best food I have tasted in Chiang Mai. The mushroom sausage was my favourite, followed closely by the pomelo salad. The spicy mushroom salad, pad kaprow and fiddlehead fern (whatever that is) was also amazing. Highly recommend this place.

Everything organic and local which you can taste immediately. Simple dishes but many options to choose from and also very good special dishes such as the fermented mushroom sausage - I would have liked to try every single dish. Also a great variety of salads with different dressings. I sat there to have breakfast and then lunch as well. Wonderful!

I LOVE PUN PUN. Every single time i'm there, they don't disappoint. They can get a little crowded during the peak hours so be prepared to wait a little. But its definitely worth the wait. Their khao soi is pretty great but they have this fermented mushroom dish which is out of this world. Also really nice vegan chocolate cake!
