Disappointing - Edit
We made reservations, listing and writing vegan, telling hostess and waiter. We were given 2 items on the menu just without cheese and sour cream. The congee was good, ambiance is beautiful, but did not outweigh the price and seeing every other dish: pork belly, steak, fish, veal…yuck.

Gem in Upper Valley - Edit
Best dining experience in North America. The server, chef and sous chef went above and beyond to craft the perfect vegan appetizers, entrees and desserts. I can't recommend this place highly enough. A true gem in the Upper Valley. One we will be revisiting. Most non vegan restaurants will tolerate you asking for changes best case scenario, these folks welcomed us and their passion for the culinary arts and hospitality is something to behold.

Delicious chef-inspired food - Edit
Hanover doesn’t have a lot of good non-casual vegan options, but Pine is by far the best of them. This cozy, elegant restaurant is part of the Hanover in and serves a seasonally varying menu of internationally inspired dishes. Usually none of the items on their menu are explicitly vegan, but the waiters are familiar with vegan and items on the menu can always be adapted.
Read moreHowever, to have an actually nice meal here the secret is to book in advance—in person or over the phone preferably—and very clearly specify to the hostess that x number of people in your party are vegan. Why do this? Well, Pine’s chef is vegan and he will prepare a delicious and especially crafted meal for you that will be ready to delight you by the time you arrive. This is only the case if you book at least 24 hours in advance, hopefully more, and any day but Fridays (when the chef is not in). You can even request to get appetizer, entree, and dessert, or just entree, or even food to go.
I’ve been to pine a number of times now under this system and I’ve been very pleasantly surprised each time. I’ve had an amazing roasted cauliflower with chickpea fritters, a deliciously flaky vegan quiche, a fresh and flavorful summer ratatouille, an amazing artichoke rosemary dip, a beautiful pizza decorated with edible flowers, black bean cakes with sweet potato purée, a farro and veggie stir fry, and more. I have never gotten the same dish twice, and I have always left satisfied and delighted with my meal.
I highly recommend Pine if you’re looking for some gourmet and unique vegan food in the area—it’s especially nice to celebrate a birthday or other such occasion (ask the waitress for an especially prepared dessert in this case too!). However, remember that you MUST book in advance.
Pros: Chef-made unique meal, Friendly staff, Good food
Cons: Must book days in advance to get good vegan food
