Read moreThey’ve recently been open for walk-in treats on Friday as well, but you should definitely check instagram in advance before you go.
If you’re visiting from out of town, be sure to grab a slice from one of the local restaurants that stock them.
Heather is also the absolute sweetest human.

Oh boy, this cake was incredible. I actually picked it up at Penelope's Vegan Taqueria and not the storefront. The cake was so moist and sweet and delicious. I truly wish I lived closer so I could try all the flavors!

I try to try every flavor at the month, usually at handlebar or liberation kitchen (it’s also at Penelope’s, paulie gee’s in Logan, and kale my name) cakes are very sweet but always so delicious and beautiful. Slices are giant!!

i had the chocolate hazelnut cake at handlebar and was amazed enough to come leave another review. the cake itself was moist (not dry at all!) and had a deep chocolate flavor without being too rich. the frosting was also delicious; it was smooth, creamy and flavorful without overpowering or being too sickly sweet. the hazelnuts added the perfect little crunch, and the design was cute too. chocolate cake usually isn’t my favorite, but this cake is probably one of the best vegan cakes i’ve ever had. scratch that, one of the best cakes i’ve had! vegan or not, i recommend trying a slice. #Veganuary

If your sweet tooth is calling out, PIe Pie is the place for you. The cupcakes are amazing. I'm a huge Lemon cake fan, but most don't have that lemon zing, thankfully that wasn't the case at Pie Pie. I loved it so much!

PPMD definitely makes some of the best cakes in Chicago. Not only are they the tastiest, they are also the most visually appealing. They do a really good job. My only critique is that they are streaky on availability, this location is only open for 3 hours on one day a week, and their sweets tend to be a little bit over the top sweet.

Great Vegan Bakery! - Edit
The owner of this lovely establishment is very hard working. They’re constantly trying to make their fans happy by providing their desserts through other restaurants like Upton’s Breakroom and through limited pick-up orders. The pandemic happened at a rough time for a lot of people but especially the owners of Pie Pie as they had recently opened up their own shop and the demand for their desserts are too high for them to keep up with even without a pandemic happening!! If you are able to, follow them on instagram to keep updated on how to get your own cake, updates for other desserts, and go order their cake slices through Uptons. Support this small business!!!!

A Gem for Vegans in Chicago - Edit
Chicago's vegan food isn't really that great compared to most cities. There's plenty of it here, but most of it doesn't really stand out. This is maybe the only exception from an all-vegan place. This place is pretty special, it's an all-vegan bakery that specializes in cakes. The other stuff is good too, but the cakes are what really stands out. They are absolutely delectable, and there's only one all-vegan bakery I've ever been to that is in the same league as Pie, Pie My Darling (Mud Pie's in KC.) The staff is extremely friendly too. There is limited hours right now, but those are eventually going to be expanded.

My teenage daughter and I drove over an hour into Chicago on a recent morning to attend VeganMania at the Broadway Armory. Upon entering, we headed straight for the Pie, Pie My Darling booth and purchased a few delicious things including a large slice of Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie to go. We walked around a little more, ate some food, and then happened to hear that Miyoko, yes THE Miyoko all the way from sunny California, was there at VeganMania! I thought it wouldn't be too hard to find her and that we should at least try. However, my daughter refused to look for Miyoko because all she wanted to do at that point was go back to the car where she could sit down and eat her Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie from Pie, Pie My Darling. Even when I said, "But it's so cool that we are here and Miyoko is here, what are the chances?" but again, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie won out. Everything that Pie, Pie My Darling makes is so tasty, beautiful and delicious, they are the absolute best vegan bakery in the Chicago area...and possibly the world!
