Excellent Deep Hole bowl

For venues on Chincoteague Island, I won’t dock stars for limited variety. Pico Taqueria offers one delicious, hearty “Deep Hole” taco bowl with rice, beans, pico, cauliflower, onions, and cilantro. Vegan hot sauces also available. I got the impression other dishes could be made vegan upon request as well — the staff were knowledgeable and very accommodating — though the Deep Hole was clearly the most vegan-friendly. Frozen margs were also terrific.

Nice surprise!

The menu is not welcoming at 1st glance, but they allowed us to make substations and we ended up with a very tasty variation of the Deep Hole bowl. They were very helpful and accommodating.

Great portions

Pico taco has the Deep Hole taco which is like a veggie bowl but it’s incredibly flavorful. The portion size is great and I got full after eating only half. However, it’s one of the only options and it needs to be veganized. Ask for no aioli (made with eggs) and ask for no shell (made with lard). Replace the beans (made with bacon) with corn salsa. The staff was knowledgeable on how to veganize it so it wasn’t a hassle at all. Overall the flavor was incredible and I would absolutely order it again. Nice outdoor seating and a sunroom sort of place to eat.

Pros: The options they have are incredible, Great portion size, Nice seating

Cons: Very few options

Not really vegan-friendly

I wouldn’t describe this place as vegan-friendly. They have one vegetarian taco, but if you get it without the Parmesan cheese and garlic aioli, it’s just cauliflower and pico de gallo in a tortilla... not exactly a great taco. The beans aren’t even vegetarian because they are made with bacon. It was a very unsatisfying meal and definitely not worth your money for a bland taco.

Pros: Good pico de gallo

Cons: No vegan tacos, Only one vegetarian taco

Yummy vegan option

Got a yummy taco bowl with corn and bean salsa substitutes for the beans (which contain meat). Califlower was delicious and crisp and packed with flavor.

Pros: Great tasting vegan options, Moderate pricing

Cons: Needs a vegan version of the rice and beans
