High quality dishes, narrow choice. - Edit
An Italian restaurant with a separate vegan menu, rare in this part of town. They have a few dishes on their menu (eg 3 main courses, all pasta dishes) but the full menu itself has a small number of choices. The food was lovely. They also have vegan wines. The dessert choices were just 2 sorbets.

The options they had were great, wish they had more! - Edit
Went to Pastaio with my mom (pescatarian) and sister (also vegan) after a busy day shopping on Oxford high street. Everything was really good, just keep in mind that portions generally were small. I had the Aglio e Olio spaghetti, which was very very good but again a bit small. My sister had the vegan option with the purple broccoli and while tasty, wasn’t quite what she was expecting. It wasn’t more of an oil based sauce which wasn’t what she was hoping for. A big add to this menu would be some more vegan pasta options for entrees (only 3 as of end-of-April 2024), at least 1 with a vegan cream-type sauce, and slightly larger portions. I’d give the food taste a 4, but portions and service bumped it down to a 3. Wouldn’t run back right away, but would revisit for sure!

cute pasta place - Edit
visited pastaio with my mum yesterday 🍝 the restaurant was very sweet and intimate with lovely decor. there is a separate vegan menu which was super handy. we ordered the olives and focaccia bread to start - both were really delicious, the bread especially. we also had an aperol spritz each, which were perfect. i ordered the aglio e olio pasta dish for mains - i was slightly let down by this as there wasn't much flavour and the pasta was very al dente, to the point where it was slightly chewy. i think i went in with high expectations from how good the food looked in photos i had seen on social media - perhaps i chose the wrong dish for my main. i would definitely like to return and try another of the vegan dishes. overall it was a lovely evening out

Amazing Vegan Pasta But Small Menu - Edit
I was really excited to try Pastaio as I had seen all the amazing vegan pasta that they had on offer. However, I was quite disappointed by the size of the vegan or ‘green’ menu. There were quite a few starter options such as olives and focaccia but the pasta/main dish options were lacking (only 3 options). There was tomato pasta, courgette or meatballs and they said on arrival that they didn’t have the courgette pasta due to stocking issues so there were only two options which were both tomato. I had the Vegan Meatballs which were amazing. The meatballs were really big and the best I’ve ever had! The pasta was really unusual and you could tell it was all homemade and fresh. The tomato sauce was really nice but quite basic. My mum had the tomato pasta option which she really enjoyed but again, it was very simple and didn’t have a lot of sauce on it but the fresh pasta was the highlight. My portion was really big with the meatballs but my mums dish was significantly smaller. They did have some vegan dessert options but they were mainly sorbets and ice creams. The prices are decent but my meatballs dish was £14 which I think was quite a lot. The restaurant itself is really nice and has a cool atmosphere and the staff are super friendly. I would go back there again for a nice pasta dish but I was confused as to where their large vegan menu has gone? With the reduced menu they aren’t offering a lot and the options are very limited now.

Not worth it - Edit
I was happy to see a dedicated vegan menu, though it wasn't 100% clear if everything on it was completely vegan or if some things were vegetarian - for example I asked about vegan desserts and was pointed to only one of the 2 options on the veg menu. I had the vegan carbonara, the concept was good with crispy tofu bits instead of bacon but I found it to be too salty for my taste and lacking much other flavour. I like al dente pasta but the spaghetti was borderline undercooked. My omni partner says his meat ravioli dish was bland - I think in general they need to revisit their seasoning.
