Definitely worth a visit - Edit
We were lucky enough to get a balcony seat and could enjoy the view of the old town.

The waiter was very polite and courteous, but the service could have been a bit faster.
The food was very tasty and beautifully arranged above average, the portions were (if you eat three courses) sufficient.
The chef personally inquires whether the food is good and everything is fine.

Vegan, romantisches Abendessen mit meinem Partner - Edit
Ich habe die Empfehlung von Niko Rittenau. War definitiv keine Enttäuschung. Die Speisen waren außerordentlich anspruchsvoll angerichtet. Öffnet leider erst um 18 Uhr. Für die Reservierung haben wir 15 Minuten davor angerufen und haben ein Platz am Balkon bekommen. Sehr schickes Ambiente.

Very slow service, waited for our starters for about an hour and then quite a while for the mains. Unreasonably priced food and the tiniest portions. If you can afford to spend 20eur on snack-sized meals then okay. White bean soup was nice but quite simple, the bread stuffed with tofu and chickpeas was a bit bland and barely warm.

After reading tbe positive reviews I had high hopes. The 1st night I went they were full so I made a reservation for the next evening. It's a very nice looking place. The waiter was very friendly. I had the impression it was a bit much for him to wait on all tables by himself.
Read moreThe vegan options are very clearly marked on the menu. For starter I had a vegan avocado and tomarillo salad with a spicy sauce. The avocado and tomarillo were only cut small but not seasoned. It tasted very fresh but also a bit bland. For main I had a vegan dish of a small bread roll filled with chickpeas, tofu, curry sauce and caramelized onions. There were a bit too many chickpeas and too little sauce, and it could all do with more seasoning.
Really not bad at all but just a bit too bland for my taste.

Food there was simply delicious. There are also vegan wines to choose. When the weather is good you can sit on a beautiful terrace.

We went here for dinner, and had a nice evening with pretty special food. It is a good option if your partner is not vegan: they have meat, fish and veg options. It is quite a fancy place. The building is old and has a nice ambience. The service is amazing, although you shouldn’t be in a rush - they take their time, but hey, good food takes time right? I went for the pumpkin soup which has vegan cheese and walnuts inside, the traditional portuguese bread with olive oil and balsamico and for main the pumpkin, chickpea, tofu stew in bread topped with parnship. Never had something like this before, but it was definetely a good taste!

Had the traditional Portuguese bread with olive oil balsamic reduction, pumpkin soup, the root beet salad with sausage like vegan creation - I forgot what it was - and for dessert the apple crumble with a very tasty and special sorbet. I liked everything except the root beet salad. Red wine recommendation was tasty, too. It’s a nice restaurant. Would like to try one of their main courses.

we had dinner on one of the cute balconies. everything was really delicious and interesting in terms of taste and presentation and everything. the cook came over a few times to chat. worth to mention we were in madeira when everything was almost empty and no tourists. but anyway amazing experience loved it

I don't usually visit fancy restaurants, but boy was this dinner slow. From the 20 minutes to bring us the water, the the time we finally were allowed to pay, we had to spend 3 hours in this empty restaurant.
Read moreThe food was delicious and carefully made. The vegan options are carefully labeled, and they have quite a few. But 3 hours?? They are only open after 6pm and closing time is supposedly at 10pm. Our reservation was at 8:30pm, so we finally left at 11:30pm tired of waiting.

whilst staying in Madeira we went twice to Olives. The flavour of the food is great with a creative twist from the chef. Especially the starters are special (we had the white bean veloute, salad with avocado and spicy sauce which was great and my partner loved the mushroom salad with cashews) The vegan bolo do caco is heavenly. For Madeiran vegan food standards this is a great place

Excellent fine vegan food, really worth the visit. The chef knows how to use different flavours and make food that not only tastes and looks amazing, but is nutritious and filling as well. I found the prices surprisingly cheap, considering the quality.

Amazing 5* Fine Dining Experience - Edit
We had the most amazing meal here last night, the flavours of each dish were exquisite. Probably the best ever Vegan meal from a non-vegan restaurant.
Read moreIt’s a real experience too with the chef and owner coming out to chat to you after service. Did it take some time to get our food? Yes, but that’s because everything is cooked fresh for you and it well worth the wait.
The restaurant is on the first floor and it feels a little like going in to someone’s private house and sitting in their dining room, which was lovely. If you’re a table for 2 there are 3 tables on the tiny balconies which I’d recommend asking for.
We’ve paid more than double for a meal that was on a similar level elsewhere so if you’re in Funchal you really need to get yourself to Olives and savour some of the wonderful culinary delights it has to offer.
The only reason I haven’t given it 5*’s? Happy Cow reserves that for fully Vegetarian/Vegan restaurants.

The restaurant is very cental with a lovely interior.

We even got some flowers and a sparkling wine because it was our anniversary.
I had the crispy seeded bread with pumpkin, chickpea, tofu stew and veggies on top. It was delicious. For dessert we had the apple crumble with tangerine sorbet and thinly sliced fruit with vegan vanilla ice cream.
Both was very good.
We paid around 53,- for water, 2 glasses of wine, one non-vegan starter, 2 mains (one vegan, one non-vegan) and two vegan desserts. It is definitely not too expensive because it is quite close to a fine dining experience and the menu is quite innovative.
We would definitely go there again.

Direkt zu Beginn keine Begrüßung, was allerdings auch komplett so wortkarg weiterging. Nach langem Warten kam der sehr ungepflegte Kellner endlich auch mal mit den Karten zu uns, ließ sich dann aber auch mit der Bestellung Zeit. In der gesamten Zeit überlegten wir, ob wir nicht gehen sollten, denn bei 7 Gästen, mit uns dann 9, stellte sich uns die Frage wo das Problem sei, doch die fragwürdig vielen guten Kritiken ließen uns dort bleiben. Leider!

Vegan muss nicht so trocken und geschmacksfrei sein (gegrilltes Gemüse in Kichererbsen als grüner Klops geformt). Und ein Salatblatt nicht in seiner kompletten Form mit 3 Tomatenklötze und einem Hauch von Vinaigrette.
Der Kellner schien mit den wenigen Gästen so überfordert zu sein, dass er selbst nach einer halben Stunde den Tisch gegangener Gäste nicht abräumte.
Der Koch selber jedoch ist sehr freundlich und in der Küche generell kreativ, war aber nur zwischendurch mal am Tisch gewesen und auch kein Anreiz dort noch mal zu speisen.
Er wäre der Grund für einen weiteren Stern gewesen, doch der unterirdisch schlechte Service und das durchschnittlich schmeckende Essen lassen nicht mehr als 1* zu!!

A beautiful fancy restaurant with plentiful veggie, vegan, fish and meat options - something to keep everyone happy! Peaceful location tucked above street level. Plentiful vegan options for all courses - allergens are clearly labelled next to each dish and "vegan" or "vegan option available" is annotated on menu where applicable.

The apple crumble dessert with tangerine sorbet was a particular star!! Owners are lovely, friendly and accommodating. Brilliant value for money and would love to return if I were in Madeira for longer - wholeheartedly recommend to vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike!!

Upstairs and out of the way of the hustle and bustle, it was a relatively small restaurant with a vegan and vegetarian menu. Was quiet and with only 1 waiter, the food was really delicious. Not sure why it wasn't busier.
