It is worth booking ahead, as you can be sat on the balcony. The menu is clearly labelled with vegan and vegan adaptable options. The food was delicious. The waiter was very attentive. Would highly recommend.

We're coming here since several years. Vegan meals are same good quality over the years.

Service is excellent, chef also. I would give 5 stars, but that's not possible since, also non vegan dishes are served.

What a cute restaurant! Totally felt like we were in someone’s apartment. Loved that they had a well marked vegan menu and knew that their house red and white wines were vegan as well. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried - it was evidently very fresh and flavorful.

Amazing vegan menu. Great knowledge and attention to Vegan needs. Delicious, regional, high class meals with reasonable pricing. Would reserve a table one-two nights befire to get a table on the balcony, very romantic. Good wines too!

The restaurant was in a building built in 1787. Service and location was excellent. The food was made by order so the dining took us little bit over 2 hours. Only negative was that it was really hot.

We visited in July 2023 and booked a table via Facebook messenger. Luckily we had a table on the balcony: the views of the street below and the setting were spectacular!
Read moreThe service, food and whole experience was truly one of our best yet. They have a separate section the menu for vegetarian/vegan and its clear which dishes can be made vegan.
We had:
Avocado Salad
Mushroom and Cashew Salad
Sundried Tomato Rissoti
A Veg mix topped with more veg and a 'Pastry basket ' (a bit like a poppadom)
Apple Crumble with Tangerine Sorbet
All of the food was incredible. It does take time (as all made fresh) so we were probably there over 2 hours but it was hands down the best meal we had in Funchal and on my list of best meals of all time!
They also have vegan red wine which I hadn't seen so far in Funchal.
Overall, amazing food and experience - a must go if near by.

Ganz unauffällig, fast versteckt ist der Eingang zum Olives Restaurant. In der ersten Etage findet man den großzügigen Gastraum und obwohl wir nicht reserviert hatten, bekamen wir einen Platz in einem der drei Balkone.

Die Auszeichnung der Karte war Perfekt, sogar die Weine waren mit dem Vermerk „Vegan“ gekennzeichnet.
Das Essen wurde frisch zubereitet und hat dem entsprecht etwas gedauert.
Ich habe selten so vorzüglich gespeist.
Die Preise sind absolut fair.
Wir hatte für zwei Vorspeisen, zwei Hauptgerichte, ein Nachtisch und zwei Gläser Wein und eine Flasche Wasser knapp 60€ zu zahlen.
Das Olives Restaurant ist etwas absolut besonderes.

Upstairs floor with homely feel rather than a restaurant. Only a few tables, 3 of which are on the balcony. We requested a balcony table via email and he was more than happy to offer this when it became available and it was def worth it. Seemed like there were only 2 members of staff, the chef and the server who was running around.

Very well labeled menu with lots of vegan options, even wine has vegan labels which I hadn’t seen anywhere else in Madeira. Very friendly service in a very intimate atmosphere. They only have 6-8 tables so definitely make a reservation. On the “fancier” side but prices aren’t bad at all, we spent 60 euro and got apps, mains, desert and a glass of wine each

From an unassuming and dark street level entrance, the restaurant is actually upstairs in a really beautiful "old world" dining room with high ceilings, calm vibes, lovely low level vintage jazz soundtrack and if you're lucky, a seat on the balcony overlooking the street. Attentive, friendly, if a bit slow, service..this is not a place for a quick/rushed meal, rather a time to relax and soak up the ambience.

For us, it was good but not amazing enough to want to return, but we overheard the table next to us making another booking there, so you may love it!

World Class Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant - Edit
This is a highly unusual and exotic restaurant in comparison to others that attempt to do the same i.e. to provide vegetarian and vegan options. The taste is way above all other restaurants in Madeira. The ambiance, on the balcony, is unparalleled. The service is perfect. And the pricing represents good value for money.

Had some imaginative vegan options. I had the beetroot, walnut and vegan camenbert salad for starters which was delicious. The vegan camenbert was so nice I wondered if it was dairy, but the waiter/owner assured me it was vegan. They made sure we were given vegan wine. The main courses were unusual and inventive and would be really good if only there was a sauce of some sort with them. They were a little dry. I had apple crumble with tangerine sorbet for dessert which was nice. Very good vegan food for Madeira (where finding vegan options is quite a struggle). Plus a lovely location. We sat on the balcony overlooking the pedestrianised lane. Hard to find as upstairs, use the address to locate and book if going at a busy time.

I had the vegan red wine by the glass. 4.5 euros... I had the pumpkin soup, mushroom salad, sun-dried tomato risotto and apple crumble.
4 courses, 2 glasses of wine and a port ... 50 euros with a tip.
Overall very impressed.
Pros: Lots of vegan food options , Vegan wine by the glass , Great view from balcony
Cons: Service can be slow
