Local Vegan Faux Meat

Nutcase Vegan can be found at many local supermarkets. Horrocks has a whole refrigerated section dedicated to the frozen patties. Having purchased them from Horrocks, I have prepared it at home and have found the sausages to hold up the best to my limited cooking skills.

As far as the flavor, Nutcase Vegan tout themselves as meat substitutes, which I agree. I think the disconnect might come with comparing it to other faux meats products that try to directly mimic the taste of meat (companies like Beyond or Impossible). The difference is that Nutcase specializes in a hardy, filling meal made with nuts. It's savory and deep in flavor. That being said, the taste is often very nutty (as one would assume). I find that the taste is not similar to meat, but that is perfectly fine with me. Just adjust your expectations going in.

As far as local restaurants that serve it, I recommend Fire & Fire's Vegan skillet. This is the absolute best way to enjoy Nutcase Vegan I have found. And arguably, this is the best vegan breakfast skillet found in Grand Rapids. I would love to learn how they prepare the patties to try to copy it for my own home kitchen.

Pros: Local to Grand Rapids, Can be found at local supermarkets, Field & Fire Vegan Skillet

Cons: Does not taste like meat, but I'm not mad about it
