So many vegan options! - Edit
I had the Cascadia tamale with pinto beans and salad. But there were many vegan choices! I also see they now have a breakfast menu with a few dishes I need to try!

Awesome vegan Mexican food. - Edit
This place has a ton of vegan options. Quite a few regular menu items and 90% of the menu can be made vegan. The quality and authenticity of their food is on point! Love their vegan chilaquiles rojos!

Great vegan options - Edit
Unfortunately there are not many completely vegan restaurants in Bellingham but happy that New Mexico Tamale has such a large selection of vegan options! My favorite item to get is the bowl with the vegan fajita chicken and their vegan avo crema… absolutely delicious. Tons of flavor and very filling. I’ve tried a few of their vegan tamales, which were good and the vegan flautas. Wish this place was all vegan but grateful for all the vegan options.

Lots of vegan options - Edit
Here is what I like about NM Tamale Co: they have a lot of vegan options. I appreciate any business that makes an effort to have vegan dishes/options.
Read moreHaving said that, I think the food is only okay, it’s not great, it’s also not bad, it’s just ok. It’s also somewhat pricey for what you get. I have been to NM Tamale Co. four times and tried the tamales, giant burrito, chimichanga and the SW salad, all vegan. All of it is just ok, none of it is particularly flavorful. I appreciate the vegan options, but I probably won’t go back anymore.
Pros: Many, many vegan options

Sooo many options! The owner is excited about offering vegan options and they take the time to make the vegan options flavorful. I’m from out of town and my friends took me here, when I left the next day I got take out again because I loved it so much! When they say spicy it is spicy, especially the Chile con queso! Also great customer service. Get the pineapple bites!!

Good but pricey! - Edit
I've had the flautas, loaded quesadillas, dessert pineapple bites, mega burrito and wet burrito and I was impressed with all of it! That being said, it's very pricey but unfortunately it seems like every restaurant in Bellingham is extremely pricey these days. Sigh. The people who work here are friendly though and portions are decent so it's a nice treat once in a while!

Everything was handmade homemade with love. The owner who is from New Mexico brought the food out and chatted with us and even explained her recipes. A beautiful experience.

Delicious - Edit
Great, clearly marked vegan options. We had the chilaquiles and a tamale and both were excellent. Nice and spicy too, they don’t take it easy.
Read moreSustainability was a disappointment though. Water in disposable plastic cups, same with the salsa, and forks wrapped in paper for no good reason.
Pros: Lots of clearly marked options , Delicious food , Spicy

I can't say enough good things about this place 🤍 Yes they serve meat but their enormous vegan menu, quality food, and outstanding owner make up for it. Don't let the name fool you, they have WAY more than just tamales. Will never eat at another Mexican restaurant in Bellingham again, making meals by omissions! Owner is the nicest lady in the world and reminds me of family. Mexican on my mom's side, my grandparents lived in New Mexico most of my life and this food reminds me of their cooking. Owner genuinely cares about vegans and all patrons. All business owners should be like her! Have been several times and still have no pictures as I immediately dig in and finish my plate before I realize I never snapped one 😊 please support them, we can't lose this gem!!

We ordered two family packs of tamales and both our vegan and non vegan family members ate well! We tried the vegan Mole and Aztec, along with rice and beans, and they were so good! Heads up though, the salsas are spicy.

Love the tamales, the price is a little higher than necessary, one of the owners Dora is a chain smoker and gets very mean if she hasn’t had one yet. The chips and salsa is the best.
